All Games: Team EG to Join the G7 Teams

By: Alex Garfield - Published September 06, 2008 at 3:39 PM EDT - Writer Archive
EG to join the G7 teams.
The G7 Teams today are proud to open the group to another representative from the northern American region. Within the next three months, Evil Geniuses (EG) will have the chance to prove themselves within the group and become a full member after this.

EG will send its Executive Director, Alexander Garfield, into the G7 Teams to represent the brand.

"It's one of eSports' largest honors to have your brand be given the opportunity to have a voice in the G7, which has amassed such an impressive and elite array of brands and individuals," said Garfield regarding the invitation. "EG will certainly do its absolute best to make North America proud alongside Craig Levine and Jason Lake as the region's team representative to the G7."

"We have been working with Alex in the past, especially regarding the CS Pro Mod topic," said Alexander T. Mueller, Spokesman of the G7 Teams. "Back then we had the feeling he could be an asset to our group and we started talking to him more intensively. At the ESWC Grand Final, we discussed the matter more and shortly after we decided to give EG the three months invite status to become a full member. We are looking forward to their input and are happy to have yet another representative from the northern American region."

The invite status starts on 5th September and will end on 5th December 2008 with the goal to welcome EG as a full member of the group.

I can't see why they were invited, throughout 2008 they've only won about 3-4 events. They sent like 6 teams (19+ people) to ESWC and didn't receive anything above 5 place. I wouldn't call that impressive at all.

#1 Our DotA team placed 4th, but yes I agree overall it was a pretty disappointing tournament for our organization, especially because we have pretty high standards. We still got plenty of great video footage and publicity though, so between the fact that ESWC paid for most of the tickets and everything else, I'd hardly call it a waste :)

Didn't realise 4th place won anything but a placing. Must have felt good blowing 20k from Intel on an all expenses paid trip for your teams to receive nothing in return but laughter. Their WoW team #2 isn't the best, they won 1 event, took 3rd at another, and just lost to a random team 3-0 at the Bizzcon qualifier this weekend.

#2/4, I think your logic is a little bit flawed (or perhaps you just have high standards). The prestige in this kind of event is getting to the finals, even if you don't have a podium placement. The fact that we had 18 North American players in the Grand Finals at ESWC was a landmark achievement in and of itself. Of course we would've liked to have more podium placements, but having nearly 50% of your players go top 8 isn't bad at all. One thing you certainly can't argue is that we did pretty well within the North American region.

If we're going by your standards, think about how many organizations weren't "impressive" at ESWC: I think you'll find that if you apply the same logic, you'd also have to place the same judgment on most of the other G7 brands. Regarding EG's WoW division, the team did well at both of the LAN events held this year thus far (the only objective criteria for ranking teams); thus, their placements have earned them the ranking #2 mentioned.

Of course, team rankings and/or placements at the ESWC Grand Finals (even though, as I stated, having so many people there in the first place is quite an accolade) are not the criteria for being invited to a federation as prestigious as the G7. There are a variety of organizational aspects that are taken into account, and even if you don't value those, I'm glad that my G7 colleagues did.

[Also, I just want to throw it out there that I'm fully aware that I'm arguing with a fake account here; I don't know who "BobbyD69" actually is, but I wish that the person would come out and openly criticize this decision as opposed to hiding behind a secondary Gotfrag account]

I do want to thank the G7 for this invitation, and we'll do our best to represent the region well.

The team did do alright so far as Blizzcon, they beat out Gravitas Gaming so that counts for something. But I don't see them being the "best".

I imagine entry into G7 is offered based much on how the organization is managed and operated, it's stability over years, it's ability to be professional, and it' overall behavior in the public light. And I am and sure the results of all the players playing in their various represented competitive games does weigh into the invite as well, but who is to say it is or should be the most important criteria?

And a small thing for #7, what is so big about being in G7 with all the Euro teams? I stated they don't deserve it as they haven't accomplished nearly half of what the Euros have. Jealousy, for what? A little icon posted on your website? What does that prove besides your in it, nothing. Don't randomly acuse me of being someone i'm not due to the fact I have an IP that you can trace. Thanks..

ok great but...what has the G7 actually been doing for eSports?

we saw them kill a CPL...great..

what else do they do?

Why not band together to get CGS to use 1.6 or something along those lines?

Its great to see EG in G7, but G7 doesn't do anything so in a way my reaction is "big deal"

#24 They made their own ranking and they boycotted the last CPL into bankrupcy!

Then I can also imagine they are doing a lot behind the scene for esports.

#22 lol. Its clear CGS know nothing about gaming and wont listen to any organisation, but the g7 wont be able to do a thing considering the vast ammount of money that the CGS actually has.

#26, that's what #22's saying.. the G7 can't really do anything..

what exactly does this mean for EG? and what does g7 actually do/decide on? Since i havent heard any specifics about g7 except they all like boycotted CPL until money is paid, it seems like joining a prestigious e-club...anyone explain?

i'd hardly call mister garfields' approach towards this topic as "professional". he might be a hardworking individual and doing his utmost best for e-sports, buti don't really see him being fit to join G7...

and isn't G7 like a elite society club? don't see them doing much lol

G7 is still a young entity, but it's taking steps to protect the rights of players and franchises. It's not an easy task given the diversity and global nature of e-sports. If you think about it, this is the best way to start constructive action for players as all G7 teams are highly visable and their every action in scrutinized.

I'm glad to be a part of EG as the North American representative. Now more than ever America needs a good face for e-sports.

What?

Do NOT blame g7 for killing CPL.g7 boycotted the CPL not because they felt like it but because the teams were not getting paid, you know... money that the players need so they can support themselves, and felt like they should not be attending because of that.

So maybe g7 helped eSports out in that they were tired of seeing teams get scammed by the most well known lan tournament at the time.

g7 is kind of like a union I think. Reps from each team... Haven't done much that is news worthy but defiantly isn't just a waste of time.

Use you're G7 powers and show CGS the massive following to CS 1.6 and the level of dedication to all of its many players, a number that far exceeds the level of Source followers and dedicated players.

its not about being a good team results wise, the G7 selects teams from an organizational standpoint and EG has been around for a very long time with no signs of folding so they deserve it more than pretty much every other NA team i can think of

he was every bit a professional but kiddies such as yourself who jump on hate bandwagons labelled him as unprofessional because he didnt update you enough? thats sad on a whole other level. If i were in his position i wouldnt have given you kids a hint of anythign regarding promod until it was nearly complete because we all know that the CS community deals with change SOOOOOO well.
