All Games: CaStrO misses game, Ace advances

By: Lucas Bigham - Published November 06, 2008 at 4:44 PM EST - Writer Archive
The Peruvian Jose “CaStrO” Castro allegedly showed up late to his final game against Valentin "Ace" Vaczi, which made it possible for the Hungarian to finish in first place in the group.
Castro had already advanced to the next round and remained undefeated in Group C up until his final game against Vaczi. If Castro had won it would force a three way tiebreaker among Jamie “MidiaN” Hallam, Dima “DIMAGA” Filipchuk, and Vaczi for second place.

"What happend is i dont know english and i missed the game without wanting to. My team leader told me my game was in an hour, but he was wrong too. Believing it was an hour i went to check some webpages and send a few emails. When i came back the referee told me i had lost and had to leave," said Castro's translator to GosuGamers.

Finishing in first place in Group C would make it very possible for the person to face Song assuming that he would purposely drop a game in Group H to avoid playing his fellow countrymen Jae Dong “Jaedong” Lee during the quarterfinals.

If Song does finish in second place in his group, he would go on to play the winner of Group C, Vaczi.

Castro will now most likely be facing Krzysztof "Draco" Nalepka, Xian "Legend" Luo, or possibly another competitor in Group H, which gives him slightly better odds in moving onto the quarterfinals.

Failing to show up for his match at the scheduled time has made it impossible for Hallam and Filipchuk to possibility redeem themselves in a tiebreaker.

Vaczi and Castro will both advance to the next round.

“I'm a bit sad that Castro forfeited his last game vs. Ace, otherwise I had a chance to play in a tiebreak,” Filipchuk told GosuGamers after the games.
