All Games: Velloso to mibr: "Win or leave"

By: Luis Mira - Published November 08, 2008 at 7:28 PM EST - Writer Archive
Made in Brazil owner Paulo Velloso has expressed his dissatisfaction over the team's poor form.
The Brazilian team confirmed in the first day of September the return of three big names - Raphael "cogu" Camargo, Renato "nak" Nakano and Lincoln "fnx" Lau -, a move that left many wondering whether the new mibr line-up could mount a serious challenge in the main international events.

After a second-place finish at Extreme Masters LA, Made in Brazil placed third in Montreal and 5th-6th in Dubai.

The WCG event in Cologne was mibr's big chance to redeem itself for the latest results but the team crashed out of the tournament at the group stage after being paired with e-STRO and Meet Your Makers.

Velloso did not hide his unhappiness over mibr's lack of good results in what seems to be an open letter published on the team's website, having noted that "something must be done."

"You can't just look the other way when the best team in the world loses to any other team and not do anything," he told mibr's official website.

"We gave this line-up all the conditions to be champion. And what did the players do? They stayed at Inferno-Online playing Deathmatch? Why not study their opponents, who had already been drawn and on the maps that had already been picked?"

Made in Brazil's next events will be the Extreme Masters' American Continental Finals, to take place from November 21st-23rd at the VGXpo Gaming Expo in Philadelphia and the DreamHack WGT event, which will be held from November 27th-30th.

Velloso even goes as far as to say that, if the team does not win these two tournaments, then drastic measures will be taken.

"Well, we just have to believe in who was once champion. KIKOOOO is in charge! He gets to choose who stays and who leaves the team. Let's see KIKOOO! We have Extreme Masters in Philadelphia and then Dreamhack in Sweden.

"Win or win, you get to choose, it's all your responsibility. Good luck."

relax. his job is to support and pressure the mibr team. if they want to continue going to these large events then they need to do all that they can. the article mentioned that they were DMing when they could have been studying their opponents. im sure hes talking about their level of dedication.

im sorry to burst ur bubble but hes actually in hes right you get payed trips to events you get bootcamps in sweden(where is like the best place in the world you could bootcamp) you get to play vs SK and other swedish teams and all europe and you cannot pull atleast top3 in a single tournament i mean come on i know its hard and it requiers alot of work but mibr seems to beat some one with a large number and than they fail misrably as of now i can say that do not see who can replace the guys in mibr mayber there are some players like Spacca and few others from other brazilian teams but they will need to improve like mibr did in the past so if u cut anyone it might be the right choice but i think personaly that it would be a big wait not a big a HUGE step backwards for mibr but in general hes right

he thinks mym and estro arent good haha
he thinks mibr is the best team in the world
he is also unaware that he has the best lineup he can get and is ungrateful

The only valid point PV makes is that MiBR spends too much aiming and not enough on Strategy, Most spanish teams/players operate that way. With the mind set of if they can out aim them and run 'n' gun they will win

he makes a point...if they knew they were in Group of Death, they shoulda been preparing...

if they were really just sitting around DMing and not preparing properly..u need to do something..

he's owner and he's running a business....they represent him.....if they take their opportunities to succeed for granted, then that's bad for business esp when it doesn't produce results..

but then again, the amount of dedication needed to come out of that group was a ton and coulda burned them out before they got to the event..its a tough situation...

i think if they win one and place top three in another he won't do anything drastic, maybe make Kikoo play.

ya so you spend a bit of money...what hes saying is outrageous.
this is probably the most pressure you can put on anybody, and how you can expect people to perform when you say crap like this is beyond me
if he wants his team to perform, talk to them personally, dont call them out in front of the entire community, all thats gonna do is make them worry more and more
what were getting out of this is NOT that he believes in his team, just that he wants them to win, and if they dont, he'll cut them
thats not motivating...just DOUCHy.

#23 best line-up? are you crazy? A team is as strong as its weakest player, and that's the case with mibr. BTT just can't keep up with the other ones. People may think "he kills and everything", but who understands of this game know that skill is the least important thing in a team, because doesn't matter how much skill the players may have, they will only win if they have a teamplay good enough to be smarter than the other team.

Now, the last two big events mibr played, you all can check out the decisive games, BTT simply sinks in the game, and he seems to insist in taking the other players down with him. On the EM Dubai against mTw, when they switched to CT (right after an amazing and consistent play as T), they lost like 5 rounds in a row, and it was always where BTT were. Just because he can't make a difference as the other players, he should as well leave, as he doesn't seem to make any effort to become a better player. I know a lot of players in Brazil that could be much better than him, and even the other players in mibr, all they need is a chance to prove.

All Velloso have to do is a couple of things: First, is to give the team an ultimatum, that has already been done (and you can all wait to see them improving, because they will). Second, is to take BTT out of that team, all KIKOOO would have to do is find a better player, and there are many players that could do that (himself, bruno could also do the trick, spacca that once played for exotic.br), among others.

"but who understands of this game know that skill is the least important thing in a team"
i could stop reading right there because it shows me how stupid you are. If you can't frag you can't win. How do people not understand this. Trying to rationalize someone's strength or weaknesses, and calling fragging ability unimportant is like calling someone a chess genius, when he doesn't even know how the pieces move on the board. Fragging is the fundamental the game is based on and it will ALWAYS be the most important part of the game. Certainly other points are important, but you will be hard-pressed to find a pro who aims worse than I do. In fact, if you were to go through mtw, sk, fnatic, estro, MYM, mibr and gg, you would not find a single player who is a poor shot.

he does know whats hes talking about hes giving them all this stuff so they can travel and get salary and they're not doing their job... thats why theres going to be a mibr B team.

By doing this hes probably gunna make mibr train real hard and hopefully they will do well the next event.

scare tatic and he has the right to do so.

That team on paper should be able to place top 3 at any tourney. Not trying to sound like a mibr fanboy but there such so much firepower on that team its absurd. Although he is wrong in dismissing mym and estro as any other team he has the right to be upset his investment is not paying off.

I dont know where this guy has been the past 7 years but; mibr has never been the best team. Sure they have been up there their whole existance and have been a fighting force. But their constant roster changes bring inconsistancies. There has always been better teams, mibr has always had all the talent they could get and they have always competed hard, but as a team they are not great, its the individual skill they shine in.

one thing tho is that mibr organization has done a terrific job sending mibr to compete all over the world, that deserves a hand. But you cant expect perfection.

There is so much talent in this world. You just have to accept that you can't win all the time.

I pretty much agree with him. MiBR players are very skilled and they had a nice time to train at inferno online and to prepare some good tactics, but it seems that some of them don't have the same will to win as others. Fnx used to be an outstanding player but in these last tournments he was playing like anyone else would, I mean he used to be a top scorer and get some rounds for MiBR but the only one doing it was Cogu. I hope that with this statement they'll train a lot more and prepare themselves well to be on the top. PV has invested a lot of money on them, now it's time to get something back.

i completely agree with him. when you sponsor a team to stay a couple of weeks in sweden, you expect the team to perform. he's investing so much money in the team and if the team can't even make it out of group stage, it IS sad.

"Win or leave, you get to choose, it's all your responsibility. Good luck."
^ awesome line ^_^

* and whoever says that changing the roster won't help the team. it will help a damn lot to get some new fresh blood who have a real desire to win & improve.. the team's stagnating right now and it really needs a kick. the players of mibr have grown complacent.. i'd say he should bring ton into the main lineup.

#29 Of course, I'm sorry, you know stuff. Fragging is the most important part in a competitive teamplay-based game, surely. Now I wonder, eSTRO for example, has really skilled players, players that basically rely more on their skill and bruteforce than intelligence. Following your logic, players like them should be the best of the world at all championships, that's why they have won every tournament they've ever been, right?

On the other hand, teams that have enough skill to fight against them, like SK, fnatic, mtw as you said, has been able to defeat highly skilled teams like eSTRO a lot of times, not because they have more skill, but because of the "certainly other points that are important", points like intelligente or teamwork, that almost doesn't have any meaning in the game whatsoever.

That's why mousesports, who was never known for having the most madfragger players in the world, managed to beat MYM in the finals, and getting the hotspot, with MYM, SK, Fnatic, mtw, Gameplay, all behind them. But of course, the fragging was the definitive factor for them, not the outsmarting, fast thinking or more prepared teamplay, but their DeathMatch skills.

You seemed really disturbed about my commentary, it was just my opinion, you don't need to agree with it. It just seemed irrational the way you were portraying "fragging" as the almighty part of the game. Of course you need to frag to get the round, but it's not the points that make a team play better or worse, the points are just consequences.

"Fragging is the fundamental the game is based on and it will ALWAYS be the most important part of the game", yeah right...

if mibr wan to succeed, the first thing they need to do is stop freaking jumping between source and 1.6. it is the dumbest move ever. also, stop their roster changes. it is messing up team chemistry.

gotfrag article have posted that kikoo wanted to create a B team and get the best out of the 10 players. that sounds like yet ANOTHER roster change. u cant dominate the world counterstrike scene with no team chemistry. of course, they need to change their mindset abt out gunning opponents. that will work if it was cs 5 years ago. not now

The problem with mibr is very simple, they move from cs:s to cs every month and after not winning a major event or taking at least top3 on it , they are changing the lineup again while half of the team come back to cs:s again.
winning eSTRO and MYM on their group isn't an easy thing to do , eSTRO are probably the best korean team the world has even known since Lunatic-hai , and MYM are extreamly strong no matter what people will say.

so, what's the point sending the team every month to sweden to pracc against SK and other scandinavian/european top teams if the team will change the lineup after another bad event?

ffs mibr , get yourself a stable lineup , pracc with this lineup and don't whine after every event.
good luck.
