All Games: Anatomy of the new EG

By: Marc Turner - Published December 13, 2008 at 10:20 PM EST - Writer Archive
A glance at the new EG.usa lineup recently announced.
The recently released lineup of the new EG.usa team has shocked many in the community. Every name from the Complexity lineup that jumped ship to EG could easily be described as famous, if not legendary. The addition of the young talent Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert does nothing but add fuel to the fire.

How will this new force fare against the best in the world? Will they be able to overcome what American teams in recent times have failed to best? Read below and you may have a more educated opinion on the subject.

GotFrag now takes a quick look at the roster with a rundown including some important stats and a bit of history.

fRoD

Danny "fRoD" Montaner
Danny "fRoD" Montaner is probably the U.S.'s best known Counter Strike player and one of the best, if not THE best, CS player in the world. In any version of the game. His history with Complexity is well documented in the news archives of this site and his AWP is legendary.

A former franchise player for the now defunct CGS league, Montaner moves away from his long time home with Complexity to take on another chapter in his so far, prestigious career in competitive gaming.

Recent accomplishments for this veteran Counter Strike player include being chosen as the franchise player for the LA Complexity, 2007 CGS CS:Source Champions, 2nd place CEVO Pro Season 9, Winner of Direct TV Championship Gaming Series 2006, 1st place WSVG Intel Summer Championship 2006 and more.

n0thing

Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert
This young talent has been a member of almost every single top American team since the CGS team migrations two years ago. A notorious competitor that garners a fair share of attention due to some ridiculous aim with both rifles and the AWP, his performances are often both criticized and praised in much the way that moto's, ksharp's or shaGuar's were in years past.

The only member of the former EG squad to remain in the roster with a contract renewal, Gilbert's injection into an established roster that includes four legendary names in Counter-Strike might be one of the most interesting combinations this scene has encountered in years.

Past teams include Formula1, Check-Six, Turmoil, eMg, and X3O. Gilbert recently placed 5th-6th at EM Montreal and finished 3rd behind SK and MiBR.

Warden

Matt "Warden" Dickens
Matt "Warden" Dickens has been a professional CS player for as long as, if not longer, than many of the players who are around today. Perhaps not as much of a star player as his former Complexity teammate Frod, there is no doubt that Warden was an integral part of the team and helped make them the a force to be reckoned with.

Warden participated in the last two seasons of the CGS as a CS:Source player for Team Complexity and was an avid player in the 1.6 community prior to his conversion to Source. Warden also competed with Complexity in the CGS Pro-AM 1.6 tournament during his stint at Source.

Storm

Tyler "Storm" Wood
Tyler "Storm" Wood is the third out of four Complexity players to migrate over to the new EG team. As seen from his stats, Storm is both an excellent offensive and defensive player and brings a great well rounded play style to the team.

Storm was originally in TSG, and was let go at a similar time to Frod and Tr1ps depature from u5 -- and eventually these three came together with Jason Lake to form the team Complexity. Before the switch to CGS and CS:Source, Storm competed with Complexity as a 1.6 organization for quite a while.

Along with Frod and Warden, Storm took the Championships for the first season of CGS competitions with Complexity, along with a second place ini the CEVO-Pro S9 championships .

hanes

Corey "hanes" Hanes
Corey "hanes" Hanes was not a Source player for as long as his former Complexity teammates, but was no doubt a solid addition to the team. Having played for teams such as Rival/GamerCo during the rise of eSports, Hanes is definitely used to the competitive 1.6 scene and ready to play.

Having formerly been a backup player for Complexity while zet was still a part of the team, Hanes was still fairly active in the 1.6 scene before he had his chance to step up as zet transferred to SK-Gaming.

His recent accomplistments include 1st in the CGS Pro-AM 1.6 division and 3rd in the CS:Source division, having been beaten out by 3D.NY and SF OPTX.

Different team, different times. #19.

fRoD WAS on one of the best teams in the world back then.

The team is different now, they will have to earn the right to be called the best team in the world
again. It will be hard, because there isn't one right now. Because the competition is so close at the
top.

hahahaha, I laughed my ass off reading that. You americans with your classic way of overdoing everything. He was one of the best players in the world - two years ago. Literary genius this is.

Rambo was one of the sickest strat callers / players to ever touch the game. Hopefully lake builds something around rambo, if rambo decides to stick around and still play the game.

i wonder what will happen when mTw.AMD vs EG.usa?
Sunde vs fRoD :p

this lineup is great and all...but they need a strat caller. tr1p would probably mesh well with the team as he is familiar with three of the guys as they were all on team Complexity. It also wouldn't hurt to have a 6-man rotation lineup. Later, if there is any obvious weak-link player, then that player would be kicked obviously and then there will be a solid 5-man lineup. (please don't flame me, it's just my opinion)

I see Hanes being replaced with a stratcaller in a short period of time. Based on the strats Warden called in the cevo brackets (I think it was him?), they were really basic and can be countered quite simply. Maybe he will call better now, maybe not, but this roster is pretty beast.
