All Games: Playoffs Spotlight: Turmoil

By: Brett Sheffield - Published November 05, 2009 at 1:18 AM EST - Writer Archive
GotFrag takes a look at the top six teams competing in the ESEA-I LAN Playoffs.

GotFrag.com - This team really took two blows throughout the season, but they have seemed to overcome them both. The first blow they took is when Gravitas Gaming, their home for over a year, decided to close its doors. This left them without a sponsor or a place to call home. This is when Turmoil Gaming decided to reopen its doors. The second blow the team took was when Thomas "thoMz" Garcia decided to jump ship and join compLexity. This prompted Turmoil to swap players with compLexity as they welcomed in Scott "evolution" Cavallero.

The team has only had four losses all season, three coming from compLexity or EG. Their fourth loss came on the season ending match against Excello on de_lite. This season has proven very successful for them as a team and they are only two wins behind the first seeded team and one win behind the second seeded team.

They will face Excello in the first round, a team that they are almost guaranteed to beat. The same could have been said last year against Ruins also, but Ruins was able to pull a huge upset and send Turmoil into the lower bracket. Excello is not the same team as Ruins, but they still have that fighting chance.

Turmoil's ESEA Playoffs Roster:

United States Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol
United States Derrick "impulsivE" Truong
United States Ben "ben" Hui
United States Joe "perez" Perez
United States Scott "evolution" Cavallero

League Record: 12-4
Seed:3rd

Expected Finish: Top 3. I'm really hoping for them to pull out huge in this tournament. They were able to place second at WCG and proved to everyone that they had the ability to win. A big win here could be a HUGE confidence booster for them going to China right after this event.

Interview with a Player

We caught up with Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol to ask him a few questions about the upcoming LAN Finals.

You guys recently had a huge team change with thoMz leaving to go to coL. You guys then took in evolution to replace him. How has this affected your team overall?

Basically the only difference is that we've got another awper and now impulsive can start colting and AKing more which has helped us. He had to take the role of awper when hostile left which I feel doesn't suite his aggressive style.

You guys just recently placed second at WCG. This means that you guys are going to China right after the ESEA Playoffs. How big is this event for motivation going into WCG?

This esea event is going to be a great way to get ready and practice for WCG and I'm really happy with how the timing worked out. We should be LAN ready by the time we get to China and ready to headshot some other countries.

Last event you guys got upset in the first round by Ruins. What are you doing differently to prevent that from happening again this year?

Ya last event that was a terrible start. I think what we're going to do differently is arrive on friday and get a good night's sleep. Last event we definitely weren't in the right mindset that morning.
