Gotfrag presents an audio interview with CPL president Angel Munoz. Angel Munoz is a great man with a positive vision. Great interview.

I'm kind of confused about what he means will be announced on friday... I'm hoping it's that CEVO and CAL merge... CALVO ftw

good questions alchemist except for the source question. horribly stated and no facts ;P

#19 i think what he was saying is this upcoming winter cpl is the last of the bianual events (1 in the summer, 1 in the winter). i think he is going to focus on the WT and the regional league.

- Friday is a board meeting to discuss CPL becoming its own entity
- Saturday is the 2006 WT Game announcement
- Winter is the last winter at the hyatt and will have CAL finals and will be the 1st stop of the WT like last Winter.

from what i can gather he said CAL finals at winter he didnt say CS, so CAL has how many games? maybe dod, bf, cs, what else? also mentioned CPLWT 2007 Australia 1st stop, i am assuming he meant 2006.

Very insightful interview. Having a league-type system of localized teams facing each other is a very imortant and necessary step that i'm glad to see the CPL is taking. Assuming E-Sports has enough success to have games broadcasted on TV, the average person flipping through channels doesn't want to see 3D vs CoL. The match would have almost no meaning to them. However, if it was state vs state (for example) it gives that person something to relate to. I don't care much for hockey, but if I come across USA vs country XXX, i'll usually stop and watch for a bit. It's a way for the average person to see something about themselves in E-Sports. That is what E-Sports needs to do to become succesful.

I'm also glad to see the CPL isn't keeping the community in the dark. The interview gives several hints towards the future, and if you think about things hes said you can get a pretty accurate idea about the things that will be announced.

i agreed with everything until the end. if you are baned for hacking but you are legit you deserve to be able to overturn that decision. and for the record arguing with a cal admin isint like arguing with the commisioner but more like arguing with the umpire.

#29 I agree, it's not the same at all, because if you're found "hacking", you're banned for a year, while a referee can only make you lose a game with a bad call.

world tour game is going to be source. he wouldnt be going to visit valve otherwise.

yeah, that would make a lot of ppl happy, but thats not the case. if you read any iviews with valve all they mention their future work is source based, ie css content/updates, dod source, hl2 aftermatch, etc. valve is done with 1.6.

good stuff. he knows what he's doin and sounds to me like he has the best interestes of the esports community in mind and isn't in it just for the money. i bet 2006 world tour game IS cs =)

Perhaps we should ask Angel why the event is so unorganized, from a spectator's standpoint. Half the time, there aren't any matches to spectate at all, unless they consider watching the backs of players heads from behind a railing 'spectating'. I consider 'spectating' getting to see the match, knowing what happens at all times on the screen, knowing the score. I don't care if TSN gives a play by play, I just want to watch the match on the screens in the lounge area.

The schedule at cplcast.com is laughable, as it is always several hours behind. Also, what good is a match schedule if you can't even watch the matches?

With all the technology at the event, I'd expect no less than a spectator area for each individual game. If a WC3 game is ever being played, I should be able to watch it. Same goes for DoD and Painkiller. Just because a big CS match is being played doesn't mean the other games cease to matter.

I'm very disappointed with the spectator aspect of this event.

So does that mean just CS:Source as the WT game and no more biannual events in the US? I hope not, I always wanted to go to a CPL event with a team (as I'm sure a lot of people) if not at least as a spectator with some friends there.

But Pay 2 Play (or whatever-you-want-to-call-it-Angel :P) sounds very interesting. If admins were being paid would we see a Jason "Alchemist" Baker back in the anti-cheat department? :D

Well #39 they would have Quake 4 if ID Software updated Doom 4 (which they didn't).

They didn't respect Angel's suggestion with the game if they want to promote it. Instead, ID Software actually wanted The CPL to pay them money if it was to be used for World Tour (how stupid is that?).

This left them on respected bad grounds. ID Software are idiots. Quake 4 is out of the picture for sure.

good to know that the CPL are talking with valve and stuff ;)

zZz i wanted either quake 4 or ut2007 to be the next wt game.

outstanding interview, angel's views are for the best interest of the community and enlighten many. I hope cs1.6 is the game for 06 but i won't be crying if its css either... wt will bring all the people together!
