By: Patrick Todd - Published November 07, 2005 at 1:13 PM EST - Writer Archive
This article is the first of the Quake IV 101 series, a series designed to help people get a foothold in Quake IV.

In the first three versions of Quake many things have changed. Quake I had air control that allowed you to pull off some of the biggest and fastest tricks in the game. Quake II removed air control and added double jumps. This change slowed down the game considerably, but changed the game so the players that spent more time practicing could still make for a very fast game. Quake III moved the game away from tricky air control and double jumps and increased the unit movement speed. Along with the changes in game speed, a few weapons were added and some removed. Quake II introduced the Railgun, the staple of modern Quake gameplay along with the Hyper Blaster which was later replaced in Quake III with the Plasma Rifle.

This article will introduce you to the new features, items, and weapons of Quake IV and their uses.
