Weapons

Gauntlet

The only melee weapon in the game, the Gauntlet is only used if you have nothing better to use or you want to make your opponent look like a fool. This weapon does a good amount of damage but it is very hard to get close enough to use.

Machine Gun

The Machine Gun is the default weapon you spawn with; not a very damage efficient weapon, but is very accurate and good for taking down a heavily damaged opponent.

Shotgun

A deadly close-range weapon, the Shotgun fires multiple pellets in a tight spread. The farther away your opponent is, the greater the spread, making the gun less effective at longer ranges. Also another good finishing weapon.

Grenade Launcher

This weapon fires grenades that have a short timer. Grenades will not explode immediately upon contact with a floor or wall, but will explode on contact with an opponent. Grenades can be bounced off walls, the floor, and ceilings to hit opponents from around corners or behind objects. The Grenade Launcher is also a good cover fire weapon to block entrances or to make a get-away with. Bouncing grenades off walls in front or to the side of you will stop or slow anyone following you and will do a great amount of damage to someone foolish enough to come within the radius of one of the grenades.

Hyper Blaster

The Hyper Blaster shoots projectiles that have a slowed rate of travel to your target. With a high rate of fire and very respectable damage output this makes for a good close range weapon and a good prediction weapon for laying down some hurt if you know where your opponent is coming from.

Nailgun

Making its return from Quake I, this weapon is one of the hardest to master. Like the Hyper Blaster, the Nailgun projectiles have a slower rate of movement but deal damage like none other. Due to the spin up time before the first shots are fired, this gun will be very hard to use for anything but spamming your enemy's general vicinity.

Rocket Launcher

Everyone who has played a deathmatch game has seen a Rocket Launcher. Slow rate of movement, large damage weapon. Useful in close range battles, but be careful of the splash damage. Once mastered, you can use the Rocket Launcher to jump higher than normal or to gain speed quickly.

Lightning Gun

This is a weapon which is unique to the Quake series. The Lighting Gun is a monster weapon if used correctly; great for medium ranged battles, this gun fires at an extremely impressive rate but at the disadvantage of having a limited range. This weapon does not do a lot of damage per shot but with the rate of fire and a quick snap-to on your opponent you can rack up a quick frag if used within range.

Railgun

The Railgun fires individual shots which deal out a great deal of damage per hit. The main drawback to the Railgun is the long cool down time, making the rate of fire very slow. A great weapon to snipe with and also one of the strongest weapons in the game. Another one of the great finishing weapons.
