Quake: ESWC Qualifier Spots

By: David Light - Published February 13, 2006 at 4:34 PM EST - Writer Archive
The eSports World Cup has released the number of Qualifier spots for each country.

The ESWC Qualifier spots are in! ESWC 2006 is planned to take place between June29th to the 2nd of July. The Quake 4 tournament will showcase $40,000 in cash prizes, with $13,000 going to first place. This will be ESWC's first Q4 event, the closest event being ESWC 2005's Q3 tournament which ended with a victory for none other than Anton "Cooller" Singov.

It is unclear at the moment whether the spots released are the number of preliminaries in each location, or the actual number of competitors that can qualify for the finals.

Having no canada means that none of the LAN centers or Canada sponsors raised the money for ESWC.

I find it odd how some of these countries have players, but no one has heard of a good player from some of these countries. The US only has 2 spots, which I think is kind of bad, fatality will probaly be taking up one of those spots just because of his past DM history, but he has yet to show in Quake4. I would like to see some of the less famous players competing at ESCW instead =\

And yeah, the scandanavian countries should have 5-6 players total.

#6 you sure about that Canada hasn't sent anybody for the past two years.
if anything will drive you crazy prematurely its the gigabyte commercial

It has to do with a country sponsor. Canada doesn't have one and some of this countries put more money up for 2 players. #8 I believe the US will hold qualifiers around the country and won't be chosen on just a name basis. #3 i agree Sweden is so packed they should be sending 3.

#11 it's only this year that canada has a sponsor (dont know if it's true, i just read it on the link you gave), last year canada hasn't sent anybody.

Canada has an organizer. I've been talking to him... he says more info end of March, and talks like there is a possibility of a Canadian in France for Quake.
