Quake: dkt returns to zex

By: Mark Dolven - Published May 16, 2006 at 3:50 PM EDT - Writer Archive
After a brief run as part of the Check-Six Quake 4 and Painkiller teams, Brian "destrukt" Flander has returned to his roots, zEx Gaming.

On November 18th, 2004, Brian Flander joined the American multi-gaming organization, Check-Six, to play Painkiller on the CPL World Tour. After mediocre results in Painkiller, Flander moved to Quake 4 on release for Winter CPL 2005 and the upcoming 2006 season. He recently announced that he will be returning to his former Counter-Strike roots and start a Quake 4 division for zEx Gaming. He will also be assuming the role of backup for the zEx Counter-Strike team.

May 15th, 2006, the newest face to Quake 4 stardom appears in the form of zEx|DKT. Coming back to the gaming realm wielding everything from a railgun, plasma gun, or rocket launcher to a USP, m4a1, or AK47. Yes, Brian “DKT” Flander is back in action to take on the multi-gaming world. Focusing first on Quake 4 and playing as a backup for zEx’s 1.6 team, Flander will be working toward being #1 in the world in both Q4 and CS 1.6.

Ultimately, Team zEx would like to welcome back an old face to the team. We would like to welcome Brian "dkt" Flander back to the team. Brian will be leading the Quake 4 division, as well as providing the team with a solid backup in the counter-strike division. Brian represent zEx in GGL AmeriCups as well as CALi and all major international/domestic LAN events.

Flander has been very adamant that he did not leave Check-Six due to personal reasons or anything relating to the management at Check-Six.  The reason for the departure was due to a conflict of interest because Everglide, Flander's own personal sponsor, has recently begun producing the DKT pad again.  One of Check-Six's feature sponsors is Soft-Trading, the company behind the Steel Pad and Icemat Series of mouspads.

It will be interesting to see if Flander does end getting any playing time for the Counter-Strike division, but the reality is that with all of the Quake 4 events coming up, the chances are unlikely.
