Quake: Cooller Takes Cypher's KODE5 Spot

By: Rod Breslau - Published August 16, 2006 at 9:13 AM EDT - Writer Archive
The new Belarusian Quake star Alexey "Cypher" Yushanevsky will have to concede his victory at KODE5 Russia to Anton "Cooller" Singov due to age restrictions.
According to mousesports' official website, Anton "Cooller" Singov will replace the 16-year old KODE5 Russia Quake 4 winner Alexey "Cypher" Yushanevsky at the grand finals in Germany. The protection of minors in Germany differs from other countries. People under the age of 18 aren't allowed to play the default version of Quake 4. The only chance for Alexey to attend this event was hoping the host to use the German version of the game. But latter refused this request, since the German version of Quake 4 causes more problems than expected. As a matter of this, Anton gets the spot to attend the event. Additionally, this may cause problems for the 16-year old Sabian "Clamp-ok" Hayblum who is to attend the KODE5 USA Quake 4 finals this weekend.

The following players are confirmed for the KODE5 Quake 4 finals, set to take place August 24th to the 27th at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany:

Sweden Johan "SK.toxic" Quick - KODE5 Sweden
Italy Alessandro "stermy" Avallone - KODE5 Italy
Russia Anton "mouz.Cooller" Singov - KODE5 Russia
Netherlands Ivo "forever" Lindhout - KODE5 Germany
United Kingdom Jay "fnatic.2GD" Harding - KODE5 UK
Kenan "Dunpeal" Aydın - KODE5 Turkey
Spain MaCrOsS - KODE5 Spain

This sucks big time. kodeFIVE should have known this age restriction and organized

the finals in another country.

They should step up to it and move the finals to another place.

If they had it in China, like the other finals... no one would have been able to play. They wanted to do it in an area where gaming is going to be in the public eye for a few days, so Games Convention in Germany was the only choice... even though players under 18 can't play. It really sucks because Cypher (and possibly Clamp-okay) are both exceptionally good players.

ridiculous not allowing players under 18 to play a video game. i mean, if his parents/tutor signs a document stating that they allow him to play, its not fair . (state > parents? )

by law and under contract, they cant let anyone under the age of 18 to attend. They have to choice, and trust me, they would want him to come compete like everyone else does.

#7, that fact's a given at this point. =P

Anywho, since Cooller was the top player of majority age in KODE5 Russia, I guess it makes sense to send him to Germany in Cypher's stead. However, KODE5 should have gotten their act together and informed him of this before the national qualifier as this is now time wasted on Cypher's account.
