I am very ancious to see how this turns out. I think the success of this will be based on the following:
- Fidelity to Q3A(controls, physics) - Matchmaking and good community building features on the website (i.e built-in ladders, clan pages, chat etc)
I think it is a given that the game will be accessible to people both on a cost basis as well as computer requirements basis, so if they can get the above 2 right, I think it will be a hit :)
I'm guessing my above statement reflects my stupidity, in that the game itself will be a downloadable client, where the website serves as a community hub. At least, this is the only way I can understand how it will be possible.
I was initially thinking the game would be played through a web browser, but surely this can't be the case :D
No word yet on when the beta will actually start. Also I have heard nothing yet on actual in-game control and I assume it will not be CPMA.
I will have it be known though that a rumor is floating around that since no official game(s) have been announced for Quakecon that it will most likely be QL.
In the mean time though I found this Web-based FPS game. . .
So it actually is going to be run through the browser? It will be interesting to see how this turns out. If it pans out nicely for them it could really revolutionize the way games are played.
they'll probably integrate most of the features from the cpma mod with the exception of the bhopping; id unlike valve usually acknowledges the existence of the competitive community.
I went through mohawkmikes link and removed the regist part took me to a sign in.
I put forgot password. It asked me for a username I put mine obviously said invalid username.
Then out of curiosity I put Fatal1ty and got taken to step 2...

It was released in 2005 at Quakecon after ID made the source code for Quake 3 avalibe to the public. Its Pretty much a free version of Quake 3 that plays the same way so if any of your buddies wants to try Q3 but dont want to buy it have them check it out as well. Also I found out the other night you can play CPMA through it.

I don't understand how a game like Quake can be web based, but I'm excited to see how it turns out.
