Hopefully! Quake was the start of all E-sports and shortly after CS pioneered it from there in Quake's descent. Now Quake is back and ready to reap the glory of its past. Best of luck to everyone!
I would say yes. Since ID Software had brought Quake back from the ashes of inexsitence, it may even bring some old Q3 pro players back. And the hardcore CS players today, they need to know that it was Quake that started the E-sports trend so they should at least give Quake Live a try.
#8, I did, I'm terrible at it ;) I'll stick to CS for now, QL is fun to watch as a spectator for me but it's not a game I could compete in at the level I compete in CS. Never played those fast paced shooters, it's such a totally different mindset than CS. I can get adjusted and dominate in cod, aa and those types of games but Q3/QL/UT is something else for CS players imo.
I don't see many of those csers moving over BUT I do predict a bright future for QL. eSports "awareness" is leaps and bounds ahead of what it was during Q3's golden age. The coverage is infinitely better than what it was as well. While the CS community might not transition to QL, most csers respect the Quake series and it's status as a game that's "hardcore" enough. Actually most 1.6 players probably give more credit to Quake3/QL than they do to Source. I expect broadcasts will get alot of attention and those csers will play a little QL on the side. QL has an opportunity to capture a large audience and attract many new players. On the other side I think some features need to be added (server creation stuff mostly) and the graphics should be polished a bit, without affecting gameplay or the engine, to attract a younger and more mainstream crowd.
i played cs at a fairly high level of competition and i've made the transfer over to quake with quite a few other players, i feel once ID works out some of the bugs which i know they will, QL will be an excellent competitive game
Not a chance. Shame really too but people have in the vast majority moved away from deathmatch games towards games like cod4 (probably because they're a lot easier to just pub around in and actually have an enjoyable experience)
Summed up: Newbies cant get kills in quake, so they play cod4/cs instead resulting in them getting better at cod4/cs and not at quake

But if iD iron out all the bugs and adds support for private matches etc, then I'm pretty sure it'll be huge again.
more ppl have to be more open to this game and not just sticking with cs
