Quake: X-Battle 0.20 Released

XBM makes advances in their competitive modification today as 0.20 is reached.
Hot behind the heels of the release of Q4Max's latest build, X-Battle has posted a new version of their competition mod for download. The press release can be found below:

About a month has gone since our last update, and now it's time for our new version: 0.20. You may be a little confused about the jump in the version number, so let's have a look at our new features: referee, coach, timeout, instagib, clanarena, duel gametype and a gimmick. You agree it's worth that jump in version number?

Ok, after your blood pressure relaxed a little, let's have a closer look on the new features and changes in this release: One of our goal for this release was to bring up necessary gameplay features like referee, coach and timeout. With these Quake 4 gains some really needed features for competitive playing.

The list of the features continues with new gametypes, at first the well known instagib "gamestyle" that can be (un-)voted during a running game. For those who don't know instagib: all powerups, weapons, ammo, armor and health is removed from the map, all players just get a railgun with infinite ammo and - maybe the most important - every weapon hit is fatal.

Next there are two complete new gametypes: ClanArena and Duel. ClanArena is well known, so we won't go in detail for this. Duel is our new gametype for those, who missed the old-style 1on1 gametype with enabled "real" warmup before the game begins.

Along to this features we also spent a lot of time on code cleanups and enhancements. One goal of this is a complete new system for handling user- and serverinfos, which results in a smarter usage of networktraffic. Also the often critisized "smoothness" was in our focus, and we believe we did a good job there, too.

There are still a lot more improvements, like enhanced scorebot support and changed scoreboard, which now shows stuff like average team pings and netto scores for Team DM gametypes. Have a look at our history.txt, which contains a full list of changes, additions and fixes.

Hmmm ... above we mentioned a gimmick - what about this? Hehe, as you may know arQon called us a gimmick-mod. We felt forced to search for gimmicks in XBM, and after we didn't find one, we had to implement one. Now we have a clear conscience, because we know we fit arQon's opinion about us. So who's the first finding it?

This is still a SDK 1.0 release of XBM. Currently we are working on the porting to the SDK 1.1. So expect a new release for 1.1 asap. So in the meantime enjoy our shiny new X-Battle mod for Quake 4 - we hope it helps waiting for the final 1.1 release.

And you know: as always links to nude pictures of Angelina Jolie are located in the readmes, users without pubic hair may not be able to read them.
