Quake: CPL Italy Preview

By: Rod Breslau - Published November 23, 2006 at 4:22 PM EST - Writer Archive
Rod "Slasher" Breslau previews this weekend's CPL Italy Quake 3 event with several interviews and analysis of top players including Magnus "fojji" Olsson and Fan "Jibo" Zhibo, as well as the release of the official seedings!

This weekend's CPL Italy event marks the first major international Quake 3 event (bar CPL Singapore) since ESWC 2005. With over 32 players registered and close to 10-15 top competitors, this weekend is a much longer-for experience for many Quakers around the world. Spectators all around the globe can once again tune into GTV to watch their favorite players go at it without having to deal with buffering streams.

Top players attending include Fan "Jibo" Zhibo, looking to win his second straight CPL after taking the debut event in Singapore one month ago. ASUS Summer 2006 winner Yury "keep3r" Mikulchik and his new sponsor SNG wish to stop Zhibo in his tracks by showing the world once again what Belorussian players are capable of. Old-school top Swedish players Magnus "fojji" Olsson and Pär "fazz" Söderman are back for Quake 3 action and the lone American Rafik "LoSt-CaUzE" Bryant attempts to dive into the Quake 3 world while still practicing Quake 4.

10 of the top players participating at the event have been interviewed, inquiring into their practice regime leading up to this weekend, their thoughts on current Quake 3 play styles, and if they will participate in the upcoming 2007 World Tour. GotFrag has also obtained the official seedings for this weekend's event, confirming who is and who isn't attending compared to the signup list. They are as follows:
