Action gets underway in the CPL Italy Quake 3 tournament this weekend at the PlayExpo in the "Fiera di Verona" in Verona, Italy. Thirty Quake players have are gathered for a chance to win cash and participate in the CPL Finals later this year in Dallas.

Among the players includes CPL Singapore 2006 champion Fan "Jibo" Zhibo, ASUS Summer 2006 champion Yury "keep3r" Mikulchik, F-player and former Q3 superstar Magnus "fojji" Olsson, SK-Gaming's Pelle "fazz" Söderman, and America's lone representative, Rafik "LoSt-CaUzE" Bryant. As well, contrary to previous reports, against All authority's Mathias "St_Germain" Perriot has indeed showed up to the event, albeit late. Because of his late arrival and check-in, he will face off against tek9 representative Jeffrey "draven" Debipersad in the first round.

Due to the previously reported http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/story/35502/ with the CPL Italy event, organizers have been forced to decide on a single elimination, best of 3 format. If time allows and the organization feels it's alright, double elimination may be used for the latter rounds.

Only a few rounds will be played today on day 1, with most of the event starting tomorrow, Saturday, November 25th at 4 AM EST (10:00 AM CET).
