Rod "Slasher" Breslau speaks to the man from down under, Andrew "Python" Cha Cha about his performance at this year's CPL Winter Championships. Are you happy with your performance at this event? Yeah I'm pretty happy with how I played at this event. Some games could have been different but that's how it goes. Do you feel you should/could have placed higher? Yeah I could have placed higher although I'm probably in the same situation as others who think they could have placed higher as well. What happened in your lower bracket match vs Z4muZ? On hub I got the YA spawn to start with which is almost the same as getting the shotgun spawn on pro-q3dm6. I tried to play a slower game on hub as opposed to how I normally play it which is more aggressive...maybe I should have stuck to my original plan. On ztn I found I just couldn't finish him off enough and he got away with some health and some good finishing shots. You were so close on hub, what didn't allow you to pull through? Aim really, I wasn't hitting a rail for the first couple of minutes. How was it to play czm? Interesting, I would have liked to play him again as I think I could make it alot closer after playing him. cl0ck said you played the 'game of your life' to defeat him, did this happen? Well before this event me and cl0ck had practiced with each other and he pretty much beat me on pro-q3dm6 every time and this wasn't by a little bit either. We had talked about how I played dm6 and things I would do in practice games. With this in mind I played a dm6 game totally different to how I played the practice games and caught him out in a few situations such as the first RA spawn. Who's impressed you so far with their play? Who do you think will end up taking the event? (Note: Asked before the finals took place) Czm most definitely, he has been playing very consistently. What do you think about the event as a whole? Did the TFT monitors bother you? The event has been pretty good, everything has been organised well and players have been allowed a lot of time to get organised in what they need. The TFT's did bother me, they're very different to play on then a CRT especially with some Lightning Gun fights where I couldn't move properly and when I did my aim wouldn't be going to where I wanted it to because it felt like everything would slow down and then catch up. Unfortunately after I had finished all my games someone told me there was a way to fix the refresh issue. What did you think of the coverage from GotFrag TV, etc? I think its been great, its up to date and people are knowing a lot of accurate information. I actually realy like the instant replay and was surprised when GotFrag brought that out because I have never seen anything like it for gaming. With the CPL 2006 season coming to a close, what are your thoughts on the whole year so far? I think it's been good, having attended 2 stops and the final. Everyone has been nice and the events have all run on time. I'm sure the CPL will look at any flaws and improve upon them for next year. Will you play in next year's World Tour? It's kind of up in the air at the moment, I'll see how things go. What do you think of the CPL announcement of the new game of Severity? Will it be successful? Great news, it can be successful and I honestly hope it is. If they can make a really good 1v1 game and team DM game it'll be a MASSIVE hit, either way I'll support it and can't wait to play it as it'll be a game that I will most likely want to play. Can we expect more "thunder from down under" or are you the last surviving Quake player in Australia? There are some players who are learning a lot very quickly in Australia and we have a great Quake scene with lots of new players to old school players. The scene in general is quite large compared to say the US even if it does have players who aren't as good as the top players but hey they all play for fun and not the money. Anything else to say? If I could perhaps make a suggestion to the CPL it would be that they have the CS players away from the Quake 3 players. The amount of sound they make is incredible and it seriously affects the ability of the Quake 3 guys in what they can hear. I'd also like to thank Ping Events and AMD in Australia, Garry and Melynda have been a great help and have accomodated for my every need which included changing my flight so I can put in practice with some really good players. Without them helping me I perhaps may have not got that 6th placing. |
