Quake: Excello picks up Swedish Quakers

By: Rod Breslau - Published January 12, 2007 at 2:13 AM EST - Writer Archive
Team Excello has picked up three Swedish Quake players to fill up its roster in Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira, Marcus "prox" Gabrielsson and Andreas "rvd" Höglin.
Portuguese based organization Excello has added three new Quake players and a new manager to it's roster for the upcoming 2007 season.

Managing the team will be Jim "pitch" Ohlsson, a member of the Swedish Cyberfight 58 Quake 3 TDM team back in 2002. Ohlsson has high hopes for his new team, "my expectations for the team are huge because of the raw talent that these players bring with them."

Among the raw talent Ohlsson speaks of is CPL Nordic runner-up Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira, a virtual unknown before the event. Siira made his mark on the scene by defeating many top players including CPL Winter 4th place finisher Alexander "Z4muZ" Ihrfohrs.

Siira explains his delight of his new teammates, "the reason why I joined the Excello team is that it will be cool to play with a Swedish Quake 3 squad." Siira continues, "I hope everything goes the way I want and hopefully we could go to as many events as possible."

Among those Swedish teammates will be Andreas "rvd" Höglin, along with former Q3TDM dollz starter Marcus "prox" Gabrielsson. Höglin had two respectable 5/6th placings at both CPL Singapore and CPL Nordic in the 2006 season. Gabrielsson has played for the dollz since 2005, a team which has been regarded as the best Quake 3 TDM team around during this period.

"I wanna thank Excello and especially Ohlsson for this opportunity, having looked for a good community to join as well as a decent sponsor for quite some time" explains Gabrielsson of his new team. "This offer came quite like a surprise."

All of Excello's new players will be playing both Quake 3 and Quake 4 for the new season, though the notion is that all of them would rather play Quake 3 if they had the choice. Siira's only experience with Quake 4 was playing it for two days after it's initial release more than a year ago. He doubts his chances of rising to the top, "I will try it of course, but I'm so much behind everyone else."

These new players will bring Excello's Quake roster to six including the almighty Jake "Mojo" Valianes, Swedish player Richard "Louie" Hansson and recent American retiree Evan "Nomadic" Bradshaw. Bradshaw is currently inactive but there is always the possibility he may return depending on future announcements on prize purses.

Excello's Quake roster is currently as follows:

Sweden Jim "pitch" Ohlsson (Manager)
Sweden Richard "Louie" Hansson
Sweden Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira
Sweden Marcus "prox" Gabrielsson
Sweden Andreas "rvd" Höglin
Canada Jake "Mojo" Valianes
United States Evan "Nomadic" Bradshaw (Inactive)
