Quake: Stermy, Cooller, av3k in $10k UK Q4 Event

Sixteen Quake 4 players have been invited for 2007's first major Quake tournament.
Multiplay, the UK’s premier LAN organiser, and Belkin, leading suppliers of networking and connectivity solutions, have announced that they will be providing $10,000 for the first major Quake 4 tournament this year. The event will take place at latest i-series event, i30, in Newbury, UK from April 6th to the 9th.

The tournament will see 16 of the world’s top players directly invited, although anyone can turn up and play on the Friday during the qualification stages. The main event, running Saturday to Sunday, will be a 32-player double elimination tournament, with the invited players taking on those who qualify on the Friday.

Among the invited players is Italian F-player Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone, Russian mastermind Anton "Cooller" Singov, the American Steel Rafik "LoSt-CaUzE" Bryant, Polish wonderboy Maciek “av3k” Krzykowski, talkative Dutchman Ivo "forever" Lindhout, Germany's new hope Marcel "k1ller" Paul, and the UK's own best Quake player, Jay “2GD” Harding.

Missing from the action will be a number of Swedish gamers including number one Quake 4 player in the world, Johan "toxic" Quick, F-player Magnus "fojji" Olsson, fnatic's Alex "Ztrider" Ingarv, and Mikael "PURRI" Tarvainen. This is due to other events taking place on the same weekend including the Gamers-Assembly LAN in France and the WonderBase LAN in Sweden. These locations are closer for Nordic players than the UK event.

Prizes will be paid out to the top six players, with first place walking away with $4,000. Multiplay and Belkin have also announced that all cash prizes will be paid out as soon as the tournament has finished.

Shoutcasting and video coverage will come from the new QuadV organization, led by the event's organizer Paul "ReDeYe" Chandler and now ex-TsN caster Joe Miller.
