Quake: Quake 4 v1.4.2 Point Release

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published June 18, 2007 at 10:37 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Today, id released the 1.4.2 patch for Quake 4 followed by an update to the Q4Max competitive mod.
The awaited 1.4.2 Point Release for Quake 4 was released today and this is what id Software has to say about the new addition:

"The Quake 4 1.4.2 Point Release Patch is now available for download. This update includes a host of features added during the 1.4 beta program, such as: refined hitboxes, optimized sound and network code, configurable fps caps, weapon balancing, server direct autodownloading, addonpak fixes and Q4TV to name only a few. The majority of our additions have been included thanks to direct community feedback and beta participation. We hope everyone enjoys the new content, features and fixes! For a more complete list of changes, please see the README.

Haven't purchased QUAKE 4 or looking to preview the changes that have been made since its release? We will also be releasing a new QUAKE 4 1.4.2 powered Multiplayer Demo soon! Stayed tuned to idsoftware.com for more information and download links.

The 1.4.2 update affects pure server and protocol consistency. Therefore, players who update to 1.4.2 from ANY previous version will only be able to connect and play against other 1.4.2 users. Save games and demos created on any previous version of the game will not be compatible with the 1.4.2 update."

Interesting stuff. Hopefully this will be a step in the right direction of improving online play and player movements. You can download the new patch from the link below. You can also download the new version of Q4MAX from the second link

Update - WSVG has just confirmed that 1.4.2 and .78c updates will be used in the WSVG Louisville event this weekend. The should make the tournament a bit more interesting.

Update - They have come out with an update to the new update that fixes some of the small problems in the .78c update.
