As the dust settles on an intense opening two days of action here at ESWC 2007 the groups for the second round of the Quake 4 tournament have been announced. The matches start tomorrow and will be the same format of those in the first group stage. The top two from each group will qualify for the single elimination bracket which will eventually crown an ESWC champion.

The biggest surprise so far is definitely the absence of Dignitas star GaRpY from the second group stage. Rated by many as a strong contender for the top four, defeats to Hunter and Cooller left GaRpY in third place in group C and out of the tournament. His Ukrainian conqueror now sits in the new group B where victories over winz and k1llsen, neither of which have looked overly impressive so far, would see him progress to the next round. Av3k, the other top seed in the group, is probably beyond his reach however with the young Polish player looking in top form.

The new group A is also packed with talent and will include a hotly anticipated rematch of ESWC 2006 with top seeds forever and Cooller going head-to-head. The second French player, Falcuma, and Swedish star PURRI complete the group. Competition will be tight and the potential is there for any of these players to cause an upset.
