Quake: av3k interviewed at ESWC

GotFrag's Liam "crow" Crowley caught up with Polish Quake prodigy Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski at the ESWC finals in Paris, France to discuss the young star's progress.

Av3k, you've just made it into the ESWC final after beating PURRI on Placebo Effect and Torment, how did you find the match?

I think PURRI played really well. It was easy sometimes for me on Placebo, but then he got the railgun and started hitting every one, it was really hard then, but I got control back and everything went good.

A lot of people expected players like Garpy and forever to maybe be at that stage, while Purri only came in as a late replacement. Did you expect him to do so well in this tournament?

Actually I didn't, I thought it was going to be forever to play me in the semi finals, it's kind of a surprise for me.

You're now only one step away from winning the ESWC, perhaps your biggest tournament so far. You've had some great achievements in the past like winning i30 and WSVG Louisville recently - how does this compare to those successes?

I think ESWC is more than just a tournament for me, it happens only one time each year so it's really important for me. It's better to win ESWC than any other tournament, but of course WSVG events are really known and prestigious also.

What do you think of the decision of players like Toxic and Fox to attend WSVG Dallas instead of the ESWC?

I don't know the story good but I think maybe they have to go there because of Fatal1ty brand, they are playing for him, so maybe he forced them to play there. I don't think they go there because of money because here money is much bigger, like ten grand for first and six for second so it's really bigger, I don't know really.

Coming back to the tournament here now, it looks likely that you'll face Cooler tomorrow in the final. You've obviously played him a lot, you know him well, how do you rate him as an opponent and what do you think his strengths and weaknesses are as a player?

I think his main weakness is that he gets nervous fast when you are using a lot of railgun against him. His strengths are that he is a really smart player and he predicts his opponents really well, and he always plays a solid game. He's playing always his best, he never has weak matches. So you know what to expect but I know how to play against this style.

So how will you play against that style?

I think I just have to play my best game and try to not rush him a lot and do not play really aggressive because he likes that. I need to wait and see what happens in the map, try to get the control and try to make my shots.

We've talked a bit about Cooller but he still has to beat winz to reach the final. Do you think winz will have any chance against Cooller?

It really depends because Cooller doesn't like defensive players and winz is one of them, so we will see, maybe it will a be hard time for Cooller, but I really don't think so.

Would you rather face cooller or winz in the final?

Winz.
