Quake: WSVG Dallas Quake 4 Melee Day 2

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published July 07, 2007 at 12:32 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Joe "nineX" Szymkowicz goes over the first day of the WSVG Quake 4 competition that is taking place in Dallas, TX. After only one day, the tournament is already turning out better than the last.
Dallas, TX - Yesterday marked the beginning of the WSVG Dallas Quake 4 competition, and 2 rounds into the event, it's already running much better than the event in Louisville, two weeks earlier. Other than a few minor server issues, the matches occurred at their scheduled times and for the most part, players seemed happy with the event.

Though there were 2 very intense matches in the second round yesterday, the first two rounds of the Upper and Lower Brackets have all gone according to seeds. Thankfully, this should all change tomorrow, when we should definitely see some thrilling matches between some of the world's top duelers. Here's what the Upper Bracket looks like after two rounds of play:

The key matches, at least in many people's opinions will be fojji vs. DaHanG and chance vs. gellehsak. Fojji and DaHanG are both very skilled players and have similar styles and strategies that should make their match one to definitely watch. In the gellehsak vs. chance match, we will see two of North America's players square-off in what looks to be a nail-biter. Both players have shown alot of potential in practices before the tournament. Andy "gellehsak" Ryder is also looking to end a slump that started back at the Warfactory tournament in June. Judging by his play thus far, he will finish very well, but can he beat the American powerhouse Chance "chance" Lacina?

Though the match between fojji and DaHanG was a bit one sided, the following match pitting DaHanG against Clamp-ok gave watchers their money's worth. Five minutes into the match we saw Clamp jump out to a commanding 11-0 lead catching DaHanG off-guard several times on spawns. But then Fogarty managed to finally recover and go on a rampage of his own for the next ten minutes, only giving up three kills and getting 27 of his own. The last ten minutes of that match were simply stunning as Fogarty put on a clinic of how Quake 4 is supposed to be played.
