Quake: Thriple Threat Quake 3 Tournament

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published July 27, 2007 at 6:47 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The Triple Threat group will be putting on a team-based Quake 3 tournament that will be unlike any done before. Some of North America's top Quake 3 teams have already signed up for the event.

The Triple Threat group will be organizing a Quake 3 tournament with a team-based emphasis. Due to a lack of events for Quake 3 in North America at the moment, some players have decided to take matters into their own hands, and make their own tournament. But this one isn't just your ordinary TDM or CTF competition. This time around, there will be 3 different team-based gametypes all within the Quake 3 competitive mod, CPMA.

Gametype - Map List
TDM - proDM6, DM7 and DM14tmp
CTF - CP9, CP5 and CTF2
iCTF - CP14, CP1 and CP18

For people who aren't sure what iCTF is, it stands for "Instagib Capture The Flag". When a match is in Instagib mode, it means that players are only able to use the Railgun, but it is one-shot kills.

I was able to speak with Chris "cdogg" Zaayenga, the Head Admin of the tournament, and he told me "The event itself was created to hopefully bring the 3 respective communities together(ictf, ctf, tdm). Now whether it will do that or not, it's up to the teams and players. Most of all, it was just something myself, as well as anyone else I asked about the idea, would just enjoy playing in."

You can visit the tournament site here for more information on rules and to see what teams are already signed up. As of writing there are still a few spots left, but spots are going quickly.

Update: Tournament signups will close August 9th, and the first matches will start August 12th. If you haven't signed up yet, hurry and do so.
