Quake: Fatal1ty To Be Given Lifetime Achievement Award

Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel will be given the eSports Awards' Lifetime Achievement Award for his part in making competitive gaming the global phenomenon that it has become in the past years.


After nearly a decade of being one of the major figures within competitive eSports, Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the eSports Awards, August 25th. He is receiving the prestigious award for his involvement within the games he plays as well as his work to further eSports as a whole. Setting the standard for the way many gamers practice, play and generally go about their lives, Wendel has become an icon for many gamers around the world.

Winning twelve major championships in five games, Fatal1ty has risen to the top of nearly every game he has competitively attempted. One of his more recent major accomplishments was in 2005, where he came back from the Lower Bracket to beat Sander "vo0" Kaasjager in two straight sets to win the CPL World Tour Finals for Painkiller. Other games that he has won major championships in include Alien vs. Predator 2, UT2k3 and Doom 3, and Quake 3.

In the past several years, Wendel has become a standout figure for eSports not only because of his abilities and skills as a gamer, but also because of his talents as a businessman. Forming partnerships with most notably Creative, Abit and XFX, the Fatal1ty logo can be found on almost any kind of hardware accessory for the PC.

With his Free Players Organization (FPO), he is also able to help other professional gamers become grow as a player as well as make them ambassadors for gaming. Current FPO gamers include Alessandro "stermy" Avallone, Magnus "fojji" Olsson and Johan "Toxjq" Quick. In addition, the FPO also tries to help gamers by setting a standard not only for gaming but also for a general eSports lifestyle that include gaming etiquette, a balance of computer and outdoor sports, and a strong emphasis on practice routines.

Recently though, Wendel has shifted positions from player to a commentator for the newly formed Championship Gaming Series, hosted by satellite-television provider DirecTV. There, he is able to give viewers his opinion and insight on the games.
