Quake: DaHanG Before WSVG Toronto

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published August 24, 2007 at 3:30 PM EDT - Writer Archive
GotFrag was able to talk with Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty about his rising success as a Quake 4 player, the upcoming WSVG competition and his favorite game of the series, Quake 2.

Name: Tim Fogarty
Alias: DaHanG
Age: 19
Location: Florida, United States
Current Organization: Team EG

What other hobbies do you have besides gaming?

As of late I haven't had much time for anything besides gaming/work/school/moving/etc. I love to play basketball though, and I plan on playing a ton once I'm back from Toronto :)

How did you like the format of this year's QuakeCon tournament? Would you like them to keep it for next year?

I don't like single elimination part of it, but QuakeCon won't change that so it doesn't really bother me. The random map situation was kind of lame, but with only four games there can't be a "good" solution. I definitely enjoyed the tournament though and I hope they do it again next year.

What have you been up to since QuakeCon?

After QuakeCon, I didn't play for about 2 weeks, except for a few online games. I was enjoying the break and getting ready for school again. Now I'm going to school and bootcamping with chance.

You are a major figure in the Quake 2 community, even more so after your highlight match with PURRI; how is the Quake 2 community doing?

All the Americans were happy about the match, except for about 1 or 2 haters. I was really amused by many European's look on the game having various excuses for my win against him. Overall, the Quake 2 community is doing just fine, a new league NADL is starting for dueling and there's 30 competitors. There's also 4v4tdm in the works :).

How do you feel going into WSVG Toronto?

I'm pretty confident I can do well at Toronto. I am bootcamping with chance and I'm feeling pretty good.

As things are now, how do you see yourself doing at Toronto?

It's hard to say. There's a lot of competition in Toronto, but top four is within my reach. Going to do my best :).

Who do you think will win this weekend?

Toxjq.

Any thoughts on the toxjq/av3k debate?

I think toxjq wasn't his normal self in Louisville when av3k won. They're both great players, but I think toxjq is still the best Quake 4 player in the world.

What are your thoughts on the newly formed "American Steel" team? How do you think it will affect the American gaming scene?

I think it's great. I'm really happy for what Rafik has done for himself and other gamers.

There anyone you want to give a shoutout to or thank anyone?

I'd like to thank EG of course for their continued support, and a shoutout to daelmun and element for their dedication to the North American Duel League for Quake2.
