Quake: WSVG Toronto Finals Melee

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published August 26, 2007 at 1:24 PM EDT - Writer Archive
In the third and final day of the WSVG Toronto competition, viewers will be in for as three of the world's top duelers go at it for first through third place in an event that has kept spectators on the edge the whole time.
Today, we'll see the seasoned veteran Anton "Cooller" Singov face off against the somewhat new Quake 4 player Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty in the Consolation Finals. Both players have been playing quite well and it will definitely be a tough one to forecast. The winner of that match will head back up to the Upper Bracket to face Johan "toxjq" Quick, who's been dominating the rest of the competitors in the field.

Being able to choose the first map, toxjq chose his favorite map Monsoon, and just like any other time, toxjq beat the young American 23-10. Taking an early lead, Quick was able to control DaHanG using some exceptional rail-work and his always-deadly LG abilities.

In the second map, we saw both players face off on Ravage, a map we saw them play yesterday. This time though, it was tox who seemed confused his opponents movement which turned into losing control and timing over some of the major items for the majority of the match. Though we saw a slight comeback with about five minutes left, it was quickly shut down by telefrag onto toxjq. DaHanG went on to win the map 20-8.

In the third map, Torment, DaHanG came out of the gates picking up a couple kills to, even though his initial spawn wasn't quite the best. For the next four minutes, it seem as though it was going to go into a second set no doubt. Then suddenly, tox seemed to regain all his composure grab a few spawn kills, and pull himself right back into the game, within the length of only about a minute or so. All the way down to the wire, it was neck-and-neck as power seemed to shift back and forth. In the end though, it was a struggle over the red armor in the last minute that seemed to decide the winner. Toxjq did go on to win the third map, and the tournament in that. Congratulations to all the players.
