After a bit of downtime from competitive Quake, GotFrag caught up with Aaron-Anton "HELL" Jones, the Quaker from Wales about what he's been busy with as of late and his plans for the future. ![]() Hey Joe, life's been treating me reasonably well thank you. Still got a few girls interested in me, still hitting the local clubs when I can, and just enjoying myself really. Oh and I got a new job aswell ;) Last time we spoke to you at i30, 1.4.1 had just come out and now we're on 1.4.2. In your opinion, what are some of the pros and cons of the newest patch? To be honest, all I remember of 1.4.1 was the bugs, which is unfortunate, so its easy for me to just mention all the pros of 1.4.2, which would obviously be that the bugs are fixed. I've got my crouchslide up ramps again, things are smoother, and the game feels better than ever. If only Quake 4 was released like how it is now, I'm sure we would've had a lot more people praising and playing the game, than criticizing and avoiding it. You went to the WSVG Dallas stop, but were absent from the QuakeCon and WSVG Toronto events; why was this? Well that comes down to Team-Dignitas and the funds of the sponsors. Even with my sweet invite from SyncError, I was still unfortunate enough to not make the event due to personal reasons at Team-Dignitas. Though nothing on a personal level towards me, just due to other reasons. Have you attended any events since WSVG Dallas? No I haven't, I just played a few online tournaments in my spare time for fun and to keep on top of things. Will you be attending WSVG London or i32? I should be at both, more than likely. ;) You are a major player in the the UK; how has the Quake scene been this past few months? From what I've seen recently and the people I've spoken to, it seems more and more people are beginning to play Quake 4. I've seen and had comments about how fast the game is now, and how much better it seems to be. I think it's drawing some people back, but then there are those that won't ever play it again. I'm sure other players/gamers are thinking we should have a new duel game already, or ID Software should just get things rolling and release Quake 5 already ;) Other's are anticipating UT3. For the time though, I'm happy with Quake 4 and its community. I think it's still better than ever at the moment. You took second in the last Clanbase Eurocup tournament; for you, what were some of the highlights of that event? With online tournaments, many drop outs and my very bad internet connection, its almost impossible for me to remember any highlights without referring to the things that I disliked first. But I guess the main highlight would be that I didn't embarrass myself entirely and placed reasonably well, as I don't hold myself in such high esteem when playing from the connection I have. Are there any new European players that have really impressed you? New? Truthfully? - No. What are your plans for the future? Will you try playing Unreal Tournament 3? I've considered it, yes. If Quake 4 is removed entirely from tournament play and it begins to die off, then I'll definitely give Unreal Tournament 3 a go; why not? I've always been interested in the previous two installments but as Quake 3 was still very popular, I didn't have any desire in switching games. Unless Quake completely dies, I think I'll be sticking with it for a while. There anyone you want to give a shoutout to or thank? Well the usual shoutouts would consist of my family, friends, my duel partner GaRpY, Team-Dignitas and the sponsors. And to you aswell Joe, as you rock and continue to make GotFrag look and be a cool place ;) |
