Quake: Quake Live: Getting Started

By: Marc Turner - Published May 01, 2009 at 10:24 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Once you have completed signup and have configured your game controls, it is time to begin your training first, then your skills measurement match. You will be trained by a female character named Crash and you will also face her in the skills match.

First, Crash will turn you loose in an obstacle course that contains several exercises in movement, rocket jumping etc..

Once you have completed the training or skipped it altogether, you will need to play your training/skill determination match. This is a simple 1v1 deathmatch against Crash that will rate your skill level in order to help match you against appropriate skill level players in the future.

Upon completion of the training/skill match you will be presented with a page that will allow you to begin online play against other real, online opponents. This means your Quake Live career is ready to begin. There are several game modes in which to choose from and finding an opponent is easy from this page.

As you can see by the screenshot above, Quake Live has personal stats, the ability to play online or to practice, a friends network and more. Stay tuned to GotFrag for the second installment of getting started with Quake Live where we will walk you through friends list, game modes, finding an opponent and more.
