Quake: Quake Live: Weapons and Armor

Don't know a plasma gun from a proximity launcher? Asking your friends what the hell a Red Armor is? Let GotFrag give you the lowdown on everything Quake Live!

GotFrag.com - Guide to Quake Live is a series of articles dedicated to the various entry level and advanced topics within the game. Providing you with direct and to the point information is our goal.

For those who'd rather get to the point and go frag rather than wading through an in-depth analysis of advanced gameplay (don't worry, we'll still have those too), than the Guide to Quake Live is for you.

In this installment, we examine the weapons that bring the frags and the armor that keeps you from becoming the ever increasing number on your opponents duel count. Study this list and you'll know what to look for in the Arena.

Pick-ups and Power-ups

The Weapons

Gauntlet

Does 50 damage but you have to pummel the person directly on their body.

Machine Gun

Starting weapon, decent at mid/long ranges on a weak enemy.

Shotgun

Very powerful short range gun with strong kickback.

Grenade Launcher

Lobs grenades making it generally tough to hit opponents with aim. It is best used as a gun to make sure an opponent takes damage going for an armor or keeping them at bay. Direct hit delivers 100 points of damage.

Rocket Launcher

Strong close-range gun and also good for keeping opponents at bay. Has a strong bounce effect on players if used properly. As with the grenade launcher, a direct hit deals 100 points of damage.

Lightning Gun

A constant beam of lightning is shot resulting in decent kickback of the opponent. Generally the best mid-range gun. Damage is based on range. Each cell delivers seven damage up close, six at medium range, and five from a distance.

Railgun

80 damage done. Instantly shoots out a beam that can inflict damage from anywhere on the map.

Plasma Gun

Fairly powerful gun, shoots projectiles at a fast rate but can be tough to aim at longer distances. Each individual plasma ball does 20 damage.

Chaingun

Charges up to shoot quicker. Shoots bullets really fast doing tons of damage at close/mid range.

Nailgun

Shoots several nails at once, good short range weapon.

Proximity Launcher

Shoots mines that expire after 30 seconds. When a player moves close they go off doing a lot of damage. These can be destroyed with rockets or plasma cells.

The Armor

Armor Shard

This gives you 5 armor points for a max of 200 armor and decreases 1 point per second until you are back to 100. Respawns every 25 seconds.

Yellow Armor

This gives you 50 armor points for a max of 200 armor and decreases 1 point per second until you are back to 100. Respawns every 25 seconds.

Red Armor

Like the Mega Health, this gives you 100 armor for a max of 200 armor and decreases 1 point per second until you are back to 100. Respawns every 25 seconds.
