Team USA

They show a lot of promise with veteran captain David "icel0re" Ritson at the helm. This lineup is loaded with experienced talent such as "wn", a previous US team captain for quake2, "DaHanG" a two time QuakeCon CTF champion, "viju" and "icelore" who had an impressive 2nd place finish at least year's QuakeCon.

Team USA Lineup

United States David "icel0re" Ritson (Captain)
United States Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty
United States Greg "wn" Paris
United States Viju "viju" Patel
United States Brian "dkt" Flander
United States Chance "chance" Lacina
United States Daniel "carnage" Sturdivant
United States Mike "perfuse" Hooper

Team Canada

Featuring long time EG player griffin, up and coming eMg player darko, and one of the best flag runners in the game, and team captain Andrew "id" Trulli. Canada will have to do some heavy thinking if they plan on getting past the Americans. What makes this team so deadly, is that it features some new names that people might not be custom to seeing in the spotlight, which makes them very easy to underestimate. Pay close attention to this team, because they just might surprise you.

Team Canada Lineup

Canada Andrew "id" Trulli (Captain)
Canada Ricardo "dragaox" Bronze
Canada Andrew "everkill" Darrow
Canada Jeff "Flysher" Heakes
Canada Darko "darko" Delevski
Canada Sparks
Canada Bentley

Match Previews

Team Death Match (TDM)

Out of all the talent Canada has, I think TDM is going to be the area in which they suffer the most. Why? Canada hasn't had a notable Team Deathmatch team since [xeno] was rocking and rolling back in 2001. With griffin boasting a wealth of TDM experience from Quake3 and Quake4, and guys like alterik and everkill both having TDM experience respectively, they are in serious need of a true 4th. Sure they have good players available to play, but I don't think those players are anywhere near as experienced as the US's, or as savvy in TDM.

Predicted Winner: USA: 2-0 - I'll predict the US wins in a convincing 30+ frag fashion. The US just has to much depth and aim for Canada in this one. Look out for wn\dkt to show up big.

Capture The Flag (CTF)

This could be interesting none of the less. Canada is being led once again by griffin, who was a long time starter for #1 Ranked "RAGE" in Quake4 CTF, and followed up by FoJ offensive starter and captain "id". The US on the other hand is being led by long time CTF vet "viju".
Capture the flag could be where the Canadians really suprise the Americans.

I would suspect the final two players in that Canadian lineup will be up and coming player Flysher, and bentley, who has a ton of quake3 CTF experience with one time top ranked team "Honks". While not nearly as impressive on paper as their American foes, the savy flag running of id, and the aim of griffin and flysher could give the American's all they can handle.

Canada's success will be dependent on them placing someone in middle who can aim with icel0re, and give id plenty of room to get into the American base. Not to mention a solid secondary offensive player who's able to escort and melee successfully, and make the proper calls to get points on the board

Projected Winner: USA: 2-0 - With wn more than likely playing base D, and icel0re and viju alternating in mid, Canada is going to have to figure out how to crack the American's intense defense. However, I suspect a close matchup on CTF7 (ironworks) as this is a map that could quickly get away from the US should id get comfortable with flag running. and Canada get established on base D.

Clan Arena:

If Canada is to win any of these sets, it's going to have to be Clan Arena. With Flysher bringing up the front, I would suspect he will be followed by dragaox, alterik, and dfm starter everkill. On the other side, the Americans look to start viju, carnage, icel0re, and DaHanG, with perfuse subbing in accordingly.

Seeing as how CA is largely position and aim based, I think this will be the closest of the three teamplay mods. It will be easy for the Americans to underestimate them, especially in CA, but with the solid aim and arena smarts of Flysher an everkill, I predict this one to go down to the wire.

With two of the best North American CA player's at their disposal, Canada will need big performance from dragaox and alterik to be victorious. But, should all 4 step up to the plate and answer the call, the American's may end up sorely disappointed.

Projected Winner: To close to call. The first few rounds of each map will be huge in establishing pace in this one. Should the American's use their hugely impressive aim to their advantage, Canada may be forced to play a more passive strategy, and rely heavily on distancing themselves, and their Railgun's.

If Canada matches their aim with well executed positioning, and win's all of their 1v1 showdowns, and 2v1 clutch situations, this one's going to go right down to the last round on at least 2 of the maps. The winner of this set will be the team who's players win the most 1v1 showdown situations.
