Quake: NGL Finals Preview - FoJ vs etc

Icelore breaks down the NGL Finals.
GotFrag.com - The top two teams in North America battle it out this Sunday evening in the finals of NGL's first season of Capture The Flag.

While there was plenty of talent in this first season of NGL capture the flag, everyone in North America had their eyes fixed on 2 teams, FoJ and etc. Having two giants like this takes you back the year 2000 when names like Clan Kapitol and The Stickmen we're appearing in the finals of virtually every TDM tourney for 2 years straight. These teams are already established by the top US talent that makes up a good portion of each team. Team etc features 3 starters of former #1 Quake4 Capture The Flag team "Rage", and a 2-time Quakecon CTF Champion "viju".

FoJ on the other hand formed several months ago after a break-up of then #1 team, team KING. FoJ is led up by top North American 1v1 Player and former Quake2 North American team captain DaHanG. This team also features arguably the best offensive player in the game, id, and one of the most solid flag defenders in the US, clampOK. Noticeably absent from this game will be icel0re, who chose to leave FoJ because of conflicts between EG and eMg.

If you look at the results of each team's match up's you'll find that each has been absolutely destroying what ever competition has been put in front of them. Each features the best in what North America and Canada has to offer in the way of offense and defense. Each team has several LAN proven players with histories in team play. Each team also has at least two players who have made LAN stage finishes.

Note: QuakeLive TV will be covering the event starting at 10:30pm EST with a live broadcast. Click here to watch!

Strengths and Weakness'.

Team etc - viju, shizem, cdogg, wn

Strengths - Team Chemistry, over all CTF experience, and best overall defense in North America

Viju has been playing middle defense since the dawn of CTF, and is hands down the most experienced of all the middle defenders currently still playing. If you couple that with wn's rock solid flag defense and you have what is to be considered, in most people's mind's, the best over all defense in North American CTF. Shizem and cdogg have been running flags together for many many years now and feature a very consistent and aggressive style of offense that will give FoJ's defense fits all game long.

Weakness' - Aim on offense

This offense is known more for their tactics and success at getting flag touches, not their aim. Will that be enough to get them past FoJ? Only time will tell. etc is going to have to rely heavily on 2v1 matchups to achieve an advantage. DaHanG and id will simply be able to out aim shizem and cdogg on most occasions. At all times etc's defense will need to be one step ahead of FoJ. The second shizem and cdogg get the flag, viju and wn will have to be on their toes and positioned properly in order to escort their flag carriers with any success, otherwise FoJ will end their attempts at flag runs rather quickly.
