The High Templar is back yet again with their infamous Psionic Storms. While these storms still cause a similar amount of damage, their damage radius seems smaller. The Dark Templar is perhaps the most loved and hated unit in the game. Their ability to stay permanently cloaked allows them easy access into their opponent’s base to wreak as much damage as possible up until they are located and killed. In Starcraft II, this unit is relatively unchanged except for the fact that two of them can no longer merge together to build a Dark Archon. The Twilight Archon, one of the favorites among protoss fans will also be making its return do what it does best, kill a lot of smaller units. The new model is bigger, brighter, and much more fearsome looking than in the original. The Phoenix, the replacement of the Scouts and Corsairs has some new abilities at its disposal. This unit is meant for air-to-air combat, but that isn’t even the best part. One of the new abilities of the Phoenix allows them to set off an area of effect attack. This can certainly come in handy when fighting off an overwhelming amount of enemy units. The Carrier, the favorite unit of the newbie and the pro, this massive ship is built to devastate anything in its path. Unfortunately, the version of the Carrier in Starcraft II is much weaker than the original. I found that even having several of these at my disposal, I had a hard time taking out even a mediocre size ground force. Hopefully, the Carrier will be brought back to its former glory. Although, this race seemed to be more popular out of the two playable at BlizzCon, they still need some work. Some units are in need of some strength while others are simply too strong at their current stage. I know that it is still far too early before any assumptions can be made about how balanced the race will be when the game is released. I strongly believe that the developers are listening to their fans and will make the changes necessary to balance this race the best they can. Page:
