This is for you newbies out there. There are issues with playing starcraft replays, especially from older matches. It requires a bit of work to get it all set up and ready to go.
First off, with older versions of starcraft, if you try to run a demo on the latest version it will simply stop moving units halfway and then you get both guys with 20k resources at the end and the game suddenly ending. Not fun. The solution is as follows: Download this link:http://www.bwprogrammers.com/modules.. It contains .exe's for all the old versions. Put them in your SC folder, and to run an older replay, simply select the right executable and go. How do you know what version the replay was recorded in? Here's a tool that helps: http://www.bwprogrammers.com/modules.php?.. It's called rexplorer. It's a plugin for your everyday windows interface. Once installed, you can configure it to show you the SC version of the replay simply by right clicking on it. It adds that info to the normal menu of "rename" and "open", etc.
It also allows you to enter in the locations of the old .exe's and load a replay straight into starcraft via a built-in macro. It's pretty useful. With this stuff, running SC replays is just a right-click away.
