In his first World Cyber Games finals, Geoff "ToT)iNcontroL(" Robinson has qualified for Seattle and will be fighting for a 1st place finish tomorrow. ![]() He is quite an active figure in various online communities where he might come across as very sarcastic, humorous, and some even like to call him just plain rude. However, when he is in-game he maintains a very stern look, showing little or no emotion that can only be imitated by the professionals of South Korea. It was obvious from the start that he did not just come to have a good time, but to win in his first major offline tournament of his career. He is part of an elite team one could safely say is one of the strongest outside of South Korea. His team is the Templars of Twilight, made up of predominately European Zerg users who have won countless tournaments both online and offline. Having begun his career as the leader of the legendary team {88}, he really began to make quite a name for himself and prove that he is one of the best in the United States. However, due to prior commitments he has been unable to attend the national finals until now. With a strong start, he was able to take out Adolfo “eVaDe[Clean]” Castillo in his first match with a score of 2-0. His second match would not be quite as easy. In his next match, he would play the US Open winner Tyler "NonY" Wasieleski where he was defeated in his only series loss of the tournament with a score of 1-2. His next series would also put his skill to the test. His opponent Jacob “NaW-LzGaMeR” Winstead, a Zerg user, made the decision to play with Protoss instead. In the first game, LzGaMeR’s aggressive play was just too much for iNcontroL and he would he be down 0-1. However, he would be able to bounce back and win the second and third games. After the series, iNcontroL made a comment about the third game in the series stating, “I had no business winning it and it launched me into the 6-0 I did to win the group”. His last opponent would be against the heavily favored Alex “Skew[Media]” Brola who is known for his strong play in Terran versus Zerg. Fortunately for iNcontroL, he was able to win that series which would force a tiebreaker between three gamers. The tiebreaker was where his play really began to shine; he was able to defeat both Tyler "NonY" Wasieleski and Alex “Skew[Media]” Brola with a total score of 4-0. This would allow for him to move onto the semi-finals. In the first match of the semi-finals he was able to defeat Dan “Artosis[Media]” Stemkoski, the United States representative in Monza, Italy last year without too much trouble. His second series would perhaps be his hardest of the day. He would face off against Alex “Skew[Media]” Brola whom he was able to shutout yet again. This victory would mean that he will be representing the United States at the World Cyber Games grand finals in Seattle, which is coincidentally his hometown. A question still stands though. Will he be able to maintain his twelve game winning streak tomorrow? Or will Alex “Skew[Media]” Brola or Dan “xLo.Nyoken” Eidson have other plans? We will just have to wait and see. |
