Starcraft: 5 with Satanik

By: Lucas Bigham - Published October 04, 2007 at 10:31 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Lucas "Colbi" Bigham takes some time to sit down with Nikolaos "xLo.sataNik" Konstantakis the Starcraft representative from Greece.
I had the opportunity to ask the Greek legend known as Nikolaos "xLo.sataNik" Konstantakis during his time in between his matches today.

A former Zerg player turned Protoss, Satanik is one of the most innovative players in the Starcraft community. With a style very few can imitate, he has shown time and time again why he is one of the most dominant players in Europe.

This year will mark the first time that Greece has sent a Starcraft representative to the grand finals.

After all of the years that you have played Starcraft this is the first time that you will be able to represent your home country of Greece. Are you excited?

I am not really excited. I really enjoy participating in tournaments and playing Starcraft for fun. My main goal while playing Starcraft is to perfect the game while still enjoying it.

In the past, you were considered mainly a Zerg user, but now your playing Protoss. What was the reason behind the switch?

I have always played all races, but I felt that I was not able to beat the really good Korean Terran players with Zerg. Because of this, I felt like it was time that I gave Protoss a try. Now I feel that I can beat the good Korean players with my Protoss. I still like playing with all of the races though.

Is this your first time coming to the United States. How have you enjoyed your stay so far?

No, I have been to New York and New Jersey before, but that was a long time ago. I have really enjoyed my stay in the United States so far. The weather is not so great, but I don't really mind.

You have been a longtime member of your current team Excello. They have a reputation of not being able to keep members on their roster for very long once they join. What has kept you so loyal to their organization?

When speaking with the managers I told them that I did not want to be required to play in every clan war. They understood and worked with me, so I don’t really feel that need to change teams.

You are set to play in a group with all Zerg users. How confident were you in advancing from this group? Do you wish that you had a different group?

No, I feel that I am good against Zerg. However, all of the members in my group are all determined to win, so it will not be easy.
