No offense man, but I have to ask the smart*** question... is this really top notch TF2? It seems like you miss more than half your shots and most of the ones you do "hit" only register because it's online. It looks like you're completely behind the person.
Ah ok. I havent really played TF2 too much past the beta. I wasn't aware the aiming in demos didn't match up with the aiming as it was happening.
#13 I thought he was pretty decent and he had some nice shots, maybe one of the better TF2 snipers (I don't know so I cant say), but I wasn't very impressed; even with you guys beating dr (congrats btw). Too many missed shots, sometimes good reaction time but sometimes seemed really slow, seems like he freaks out too much when someone is close and he might as well not use his machine gun because it never hits anything. I'm sure he'd beat me up pretty good, but I haven't played in months and if I had I have to say I'd probably argue with you.
17 it's pretty tough to snipe in TF2. unless you're as good as pangu, rob-wiz, or someone like that, it's completely ineffective as a class. that they miss is a testament to that difficulty, and their ability to overcome it to turn the sniper into a viable choice a testament to their skill.
it's hard to describe why it's difficult... it's a combination of a few aspects: awkward, generally fast and unpredictable player movement, being forced to scope and wait a few ticks before doing significant damage, in a game where constant movement is key, and the intricacies of hit-boxes and net-code that seem to vary from server to server.
if you're genuinely curious you should try sniping against any of these guys, even with a couple weeks' practice I think even the most talented gamer would find it challenging to be as consistent as snipers are in other games.
Good post #18, I mostly sniped when I played during the beta, mostly offensive and floating around (similar to how pangus plays) and It just didn't seem all that difficult. Maybe because I'm from more of a hitscan genre even though my 'credentials' are about half & half, the sniper in TF2 is incredibly accurate and, unlike other weapons, it's far more hitscan than it is projectile. I've been on a couple-years-or-so hiatus from gaming (as in playing every day or so) and when sniping during the beta, even really offensive and aggressive, it was hardly a challenge to pull at least 70-ish% headshots and hit someone with just about every shot. The only real challenge to sniping is close range scouts and I feel that after a decent amount of practice, especially with how straight the rifle shoots unscoped, it should be pretty easy to learn.
He's obviously more than a decent player because he wouldn't be a part of a team that can overcome a group of guys like dr if he wasnt, but I really am just not all that impressed with the demo. There was some great shots where I was saying "ahaha nice" but there were a large amount of times where I was just thinking "wow that was bad..." especially when he was using his secondary weapon (although a few people have stated that the aiming in demos is off from what the user was seeing)
first time i ever played sniper, i got 44 points on dustbowl sitting back and shooting idiots. getting kills back then, and now is completely different. now talk about a semifinals match against the top team, and getting as many kills as he did and more importantly staying on top of the enemy sniper as much as he did is pretty impressive. everyone misses easy shots, especially in this game. getting in a rush, or letting the nerves of a big match get to you affects even the best players. no one's game plays out like a highlight reel.
i think that lucas basically summed up sniper pretty damn well. the only thing i'll add is that it's easy to be a mediocre sniper, but the difference in skill between an excellent sniper and a mediocre one is massive.
in my opinion, the sniper secondary is the one of the most useless weapons in the game (most of the time i have a tendency to try and quickscope headshot scouts in my face because i hate it so much), but yes the aiming you see in the demo isn't the same as in game... not sure why, but it's not the first time shots have looked off.
Like 21 said u can't compare killing noobs to killing top notch players
Also I think the standard of TF2 sniping will improve as the time passes and people learn to use the awkward sniper rifle more effectively. Just like awping in 1.6 and source has vastly improved from the days of JonnyR to now with guys like Cogu and frod.
#26, http://www.gotfrag.com/tf2/demos/22677/ As for this match, I don't think anyone wants to upload that huge demo which wasn't very eventful until the stopwatch round.
Stunning performance, esp all those scout headshots! bl with the result, that stopwatch C cap couldn't have been any closer.
But why do you and rob-wiz machete thin air all the time, especially during setup or between successive rifle shots? To detect random spies? To identify yourself as not a spy? To build up crits? To move your head awkwardly to be less vulnerable to headshots from other snipers? Because you're bored? Can't figure it out..

AHHHH to give metal to the engineer. n1
would watch again
#9 it appears that way, but he really is hitting the people, and would hit them just as fine on lan. as to missing shots, everyone misses.
please try playing vs. him, hell send you packing to w/e game you play :)
And I am also wondering why ya'll run in as scouts and suicide b4 the round starts.

Did you watch the whole demo, including the end? I think you may have gotten the results mixed up.
Regardless, I saw the match live and I must say I was rooting for you guys ;)
