I am new to Team Fortress, I used to play counter strike awhile ago and just bought the orange box and started playing it when I realized it was fun. Anyway I was wondering if anyone could explain a few things to me if no one minds. How would a scrim work? what kinda maps would you play on to scrim? What is the IRC channel for scrims or where do you find them.
"How would a scrim work?" is kinda a broad question, so I'm not sure exactly what sort of answer you're looking for there
Maps that are played: pretty much everything except hydro. Dustbowl and Gravel pit are both stopwatch, meaning it's assumed that both teams will be able to capture all of the points, so the team who does it the fastest is the one that takes the win. There's a few custom maps that get played in some leagues as well; cp_junction, and ctf_mach4 being the most common. And everyone needs to have ctf_bball2. Trust me on that one.
IRC channel is #tf2scrim. There's several others for specific uses (finding ringers, picking up free agents, etc) but mostly #tf2scrim gets used for everything.
This is just a general rule, different leagues have different rules on class limits, or none at all. Recently an IRC channel has popped up offering scrims between 12 random people. #tf2pickup on irc.gamesurge.net Once you get your skills above pub level, try this out to see how it works. If you aren't that good, you may (will) be yelled at for jacking up the other team and causing them to lose. My advice, pick a class that you like and are good at it and perfect it. Do not attempt to perfect engineer or pyro. Anything else is fair game. If I had to do it again, I would go sniper/scout. As it stands, I do medic/demo.
I am good at sniper its my best thing but I saw on a different post I saw no one put sniper for a good class setup so I was worried a bit. I kinda suck with every other class. (my favorite gun on CS was a scout) I had lots of sniper practice so I suppose thats why I like it, what would you consider good in pubbing? or a mark as to when I should know to begin scrimming.
Yeah, thats what I read well I started yesterday so give me a break! lol. I just haven't fully tried out all the classes and know exactly how they should be played and why you know? I am still quite the noob I just wanted a few questions clarified so I know for the future. may I ask why a sniper isn't viable most of the time thou ( just wondering)
scouts are there, basically, to be extremely annoying to the other team. Steal their attention away from your team's soldiers, pick off lone enemies, back cap and deal a crapload of dmg, etc.
Well usually engineers' sentries (their best weapon) will get owned by a good team.. A half decent demo can get rid of one pretty fast just by popping in and out laying stickies untill they have about 5 next to the sentry, then explode them all at once.
Though on some maps it can be hard to get rid of them if they have a good team to back them up :)
Also about the #tf2pickup thing, how do I change from quakenet to gamesurge? I have a channel I like to go on on quakenet, and I'd like to be able to use both. Is the #tf2scrim on gamesurge too?
questions.

ubers win rounds. if you can harrass their medic to pop uber too early with your medic still alive, then you'll have the upper hand.
