please tell me we can watch from stv... listening to the people @ pwnage.tv is like watching golf with a retarded football caster who has his mic halfway up his ass
a big problem of pwnage.tv and coverage like it is that they're never watching whom you want to watch. they miss the action because they can't tell in real time exactly who's going to get the big frags.
tf2 is one of those rare games that looks interesting from free-look. and, after any big fight there's usually a stretch of down-time during which nothing is really happening. ubers are charging, people are defending and pushing a little but but nothing amazing.
it would be interesting if it were possible to watch, say, the initial mid-fight live on granary in free look so that you can see all the action and what's happening, and then after it's over and there's downtime, somehow show a replay of first person footage of the people who made good frags during the fight.
I know this is beyond what is possible with the current system--pwnage.tv connected to a stv and just switching targets at whim--but perhaps it could be possible with two stv's, one on a 30 or 45 second longer delay than the first, to make replays possible.
perhaps this is too much work, but right now I only watch casts of games when an stv isn't available or an stv demo won't be made available after the match. the coverage is mildly entertaining at times, but usually it's just a hassle.
pwnage does their broadcasts from spec & when tournament mode is on it locks spec into 1st person. :(
I think they'd be well served to use sourcetv, but there are very few american servers that even run it, let alone the 128 slot relays that seem pretty standed in Europe. I also think they'd gain a lot by coordinating their cameras with the commentator more effectively (via IRC or the like). It seems like half the time whoever they are talking about isn't even the person on the camera because the cameraman and commentator are different people and not on the same page. Finally, their general game knowledge leaves a lot to be desired. Oftentimes it seems like they aren't even paying attention to what's happening at all.
But then again, it's free and casting matches live isn't exactly easy, so maybe we expect too much. When I first started watching I had hoped they'd get better with time... but with all the staff turnover they have it seems like everyone is always learning. :(
Iīve listened to the pwnage.tv cast of 4 Kings vs FragD and I can only agree with you, sadly! But for us Europeans itīs not really a bad thing, because we have QuadV and with Deman one of the most amazing casters out there.
You should check them out, the recent VOD they did was the Pandemic vs. Excello game:
