I think the medic beam should work as a leash, so if your medic falls back out of range while healing you, it keeps you in range, pulling you back like an obedient dog. This would solve many problems.
and it would work in mid-air too, allowing you to rocket jump around sharp corners and then detaching the beam to launch your heal target like a sling shot
