Let's take a step back and take a look at how competitive TF2 is progressing from a broader perspective.
I think we're starting to see a greater and greater lack of variety and creativity in competitive play. The push game in 6v6 has seriously been exhausted. Hold, kill reptile, push-in, retreat, watch the flanks, etc. You see the same recycled tactics at the highest level of play, and by the same handful of recycled players. And if something new is seen from a top team, you can bet that 90% of the other teams will be doing the same thing next week. Good ideas from any other teams or players simply can't exist. I bet that half of you didn't even know you could build a teleporter entrance inside the red spawn of gravelpit.
It's pretty obvious that the reason we're seeing new teams with the same recycled players is that those players have (for the most part) several years of Quake experience, and thus the best DM skills. And then when they moved to TF2, of course they tailored the competitive format to primarily reward DM skills.
Smoke some weed and play some 8v8. Limit demoman and medic to 1 per team, then limit all other classes to 2. And watch the game become fun in an entirely new way.
8v8 is more true to the spirit of the game because strategic thinking becomes absolutely essential.
#10 It's okay, I've not known what to say to somebody before too. But then I realized that that person was just a lot smarter than me, and I went and read a lot of wikipedia.
Maybe, but teams already have problems with carrying six.
And honestly, it would make it even more so about DM skills. In 6v6, you can luck out by getting a good run against better DMers, and win some rounds, but in 8v8 you have even more higher skilled players to take down. It would be a "stacked" game.
Teams have enough trouble getting 6. I don't think adding another two playing would do much as people who still hold the same chokepoints on the same maps.

Let's take a step back and take a look at how competitive baseball is progressing from a broader perspective.
I think we're starting to see a greater and greater lack of variety and creativity in competitive play. The hitting game in MLB has seriously been exhausted. Step in the box, watch the pitch, swing your bat, run for first base, etc. You see the same recycled tactics at the highest level of play, and by the same handful of recycled players. And if something new is seen from a top team, you can bet that 90% of the other teams will be doing the same thing next week. Good ideas from any other teams or players simply can't exist. I bet that half of you didn't even know you could hold the bat still to do a bunt.
You just put up a peice of content that was not nuetral. You fell right into the hands of EG
Right, tactics this season are completely the same as always!
The top 3 or 4 teams in TF2 right now are all significantly different tactically. We're using the demoman as the point of attack with main heals which no other team in the US has done before. Loaded uses their Scouts as their main playmakers and plays defensively waiting for them to get picks before pushing as a team. 20ID now uses the tried and true soldier as main heal and they use a lot of set attacking strategies where they push as a team.
All the teams play differently and tactics are still changing and evolving, yes, the general strategy is the same, but it's like that in everything.
I'd bring up a pro sports analogy but someone already did that earlier in the thread.
Teamwork is way more important in TF2 than DM skills right now and switching to 8v8 won't have any affect on that. All 8 players on each team would do is clog up the choke points even more and probably make the game more reliant on high skill players, since they'll be the only ones who will have a chance to create a breakthrough by pushing with overheals while the rest of the team just sits back and holds a la the current Loaded style of play.
#30, please enlighten us on what is NOT a "shitty" game then?
