I've been incredibly swamped with absolutely no free time dealing with TF2 GXL tournament stuff. but for a small update to those who were interested.
6 teams showed up. we expected about 8, but a few bailed due to school/college issues (mostly exams) on monday, so oh well. however, all 6 teams are players filled with known players in the tf2 community, so these 6 teams are very competitive, and the matches have actually been very entertaining to watch.
Group B is underway as I speak. I'll post more on this later, hopefully. but i have a feeling i wont be free at all until the tournament is finally over.
however, i'm taking lots of pics and videos, and there's even some videos of carnage and solidsnake in funny + fun contests, and the footage is priceless. :]
I'll update everyone around Monday with the full details of everything that happened, because sunday consists of myself taking justin back to the airport, and studying for an exam that's on monday morning. plus, monday is my 21st birthday, so i'm not even sure how available i will be. but i'll post something up.
the winners of the bball tournament were Technasty and Evolution[supz], beating...uhhh...some team i can't remember, beating carnage + relic, and beating volt + lange in the finals. the semi finals and finals were actually incredibly close, so it was a lot of fun to watch.
this event has been amazing so far. i'm incredibly tired and exhausted, but everyone has been incredibly chill and fun, and this is just fantastic. anyway, i need to get back to work. ;3
i'll post a roster list later. however, i actually don't remember the full rosters of each team, only some. so if anyone that attended knows a full roster of a team (perhaps their own), feel free to post it.
anyway, i'm about to head back to the LAN with justin for the remaining 3-4 hours that the LAN has. expect an update tomorrow, but i doubt tonight.
LAN was a great time had fun with everyone that attended! Nothing but whiskey and healing lol but all good. Sorry but jazzy is banned from all gathers >:]! take a shower and get a haircut bro looked like smash ass. This was my last event I could attend too due to deployment next month for 1 year. Hopefully tf2 stays active and more and more people get interested in the game which a lot has changed since the last time I played prior to the tourney, even when I got on irc and checked all the channels there was plenty new people which was great. Hopefully they will keep having good events like these and more tf2 LANs! Stuck in traffic right now in NJ lol whatelse is new. Thank god for iPhones~
TF2 part of LAN was really fun and ran pretty smoothly. Everyone had a good time, and the matches were a lot of fun. Hopefully Wild Turkey will setup more LAN events for TF2 because this one went well. Had fun meeting everyone ! FANTASY GAYLAND
i gave solidsnake pretty much every single picture + video i had on my camera (he uploaded it all to his PC from my SDHC card). I'll talk to solid and we'll try to upload everything throughout the week asap. I wanna say between pics and videos, there's around 130-180. it's ridiculous, but worth every bit of it.
well yea, you had that camera running 24/7 at that lan hahaha. definately was a great time and it was fun meeting everyone from tf2. hopefully more to come in the future.
45, wait till you see him beast it on the push up contest ;)
Since I can't beat tech in game, the only thing I could do good at was destroying a computer case, even though he still got a prize :(
All in all it was a fantastic event. Nick did amazing and deserves tons of kudos, it even extended to a point where he almost sub-contracted me to fight women on his be-half, effing INTENSE. Pics will explain it all and I want that snky one of me and boulder....whoever took it POST IT UP!
Thanks Nick for everything. Was an awesome tournament with a great finals.
Some odd/amazing/make me question humanity things that I can remember:
L4D kids standing up and shouting/screaming "that pounce was over 9000" and being deadly serious about it to the other team reminiscent of the whats up now swedes video.
Fantasy Gayland being set up between two rival? CS teams that were in the finals and their "crews", not even the teams themselves but the people watching were non-stop cat calling and shouting things like "your parents don't love you!" and the even more deadly "It's a long drive home Frenchiessss" The weirdest part being the team was talking in Spanish to each other though. ?_?
Carnage putting everyone to shame in this snow cone eating race.
Bulldozer and Tech smashing the hell out of a computer case with a sledgehammer.
Some really rowdy all girls L4D team that kept causing a ruckus with the TF2 section.
Could go on and on, was an awesome time. When the guy at the end was giving Fantasy Gayland our money he told us that the TF2 part was easily the most successful part of the lan and he wants to start doing some TF2 exclusive things. It went so well he spoke about doing a 100 man TF2 lan sometime in March. TF2 was the best spectator game easily as it should be.
Was awesome meeting everyone, thanks again and make sure to send wo0t your demos. We couldn't get a STV of the finals match so if any loaded feel like uploading theirs as well it would be appreciated. :d
I was sorry I couldn't stay more than that saturday but I had an awesome time. It was cool to see some people again. I was impressed the way Fragile handled the event. He was on top of things at all times. All in all I had a great time and let's hope more people get to go next time.
Fragile is a superstar and everyone was very cool. It was fun being able to put faces to names.
Volt has the most tricked out '97 camry in existence Boulder has the voice of an angel Sami is a boss for playing a class he didn't even main, and still doing well Aaron is fucking MAD Thrickster is my hero for coming out and playing for PROFESSIONAL E-SPORTS ATHLETES! We all appreciate it. New Jersey sucks for almost making me miss my flight home (who the fvck closes a bridge in the middle of the day on the sunday of a holiday weekend) Routers hurt like hell when they bounce off of your head.
It was a lot of fun, and I'll definitely be there next year.
finally hooked up my computer and now uploading everything to my pc. unfortunately it's going to take forever to upload all the videos to youtube (it'll probably take me the rest of tonight and all day tomorrow). I'm going to upload videos to Youtube all tomorrow, and I'll upload all the photos to photobucket or something. Also, expect the mass update/writeup of the tf2 tournament tomorrow.
I really appreciate everyone's feedback on the tournament. I believe I ran it pretty well, and the support I received from it was really overwhelming in only good ways, which is fantastic. All the matches were intense, regardless of the score.
If anyone wondered why there aren't any stv demos, it's because the halloween patch decided to come out and break the servers (I had them working at the test LAN about a month prior). So not only was I spending time seating all the l4d/tf2/css teams in the tournament section, but I had to spend literally hours trying to update/fix the servers. Even after that, I had to fix them up because they were lagging when two matches were going on at once. However, I even got that fixed, so the servers were absolutely flawless. Pretty much by the end of group play, everything was perfect and nifty. at that point, i didn't want to change anything whatsoever. the servers were working perfectly, and I wasn't going to risk anything bad happening by changing it otherwise (aka adding stv). But i encouraged everyone to record, so perhaps request demos from others :p.
Well, I guess that was a small update of things. expect everything tomorrow/within the week.
