With TF2's beta release merely a week old players from a myriad of backgrounds have been religiously playing around the clock, including several of the staff here at GotFrag. It was only a matter of time before leagues took notice, and ESL has come to the rescue as the first major league to sport a TF2 competition.
ESL's ladder uses a 6 versus 6 format with friendly fire. The current map list includes both capture the flag (CTF) and capture point (CP) maps. 2fort, well and granary have the map time limit set at 30 minutes, while dustbowl and gravelpit each team will defend and attack twice.
This rule set differs from those used in the Team Fortress Classic (TFC) leagues currently operating and incorporates a lot of developments gleamed from the successes of rules used in other games. For instance in STA's TFC league the rules are rather arcane, with matches played 9 versus 9 and rules which set a limit on the maximum number of defenders. Also “*Excessive* Offensive Crossfire/Death-Matching” is not allowed. The full list of STA TFC rules can be found:

Rules
As the game is still in beta we've put both Capture the Flag and Control Point game types in the same ladder, both teams choose either a CTF or CP map to play in the match.
To start with, matches will be played 6on6 with friendly fire on. The maps ctf_2fort, cp_well & cp_granary will have a 30 minute time limit, and on cp_dustbowl & cp_gravelpit both teams will play as attackers and defenders twice. You can always find the current settings and rules at Info & Details.

How to play
To play in the ladder you and and your team mates must be registered on the ESL, one of you creates the team and the others join. Once you have at least 6 players and have entered a contact method (ICQ or IRC) you can join the ladder by clicking the sign up link at the top of this news.
To challenge a team either you can look in the ladder rankings or new entries for an opponent and click the challenge link or if you have the link to their team on ESL click the challenge link on their profile.
We hope you all have lots of fun in the ladder and look forward to seeing you in game.

6v6 TF2.. nothing can be better.
I think 8v8 would be ideal
That site is horribly hard to navigate.
Not sure how that is even judged at all.
Long live my medic conc jumping in 2fort5r :-)
I hope it doesn't work in TF2... in QWTF there were no such rule and it worked fine for all the years I played it... for example... in 2fort4 (or 2fort5, or 2fort5r...etc...) you had 10 vs 10 and most of the ppl playing soldiers met in the bridge in the middle of the map (or rocket jumped over it) and it was a blast pre-priming nades and shooting rockets to the other soldiers while in the air trying to avoid ennemy snipers :-)
Best teams will have lots of classes, not just snipers or soldiers...
