As reported by Shacknews.com tonight at 12:26am, Valve has released info regarding the upcoming medic unlockable weapons, slated to be released the week of April 20th. Further info regarding the rest of this massive upload package, which will include the new Valve-designed escort map "Goldrush", will be released in the next couple days as well as an i'view between Shacknews & Valve's TF2 guy, Robin Walker. Full details of the new Medic weapons are below.. The Blutsaugher For players that earn one third of the 36 new medic achievements, they will be given a new syringe gun. Called "The Blutsaugher," this new weapon no longer has the ability to score critical hits against an opponent. Instead it will draw health from enemies each time a syringe hits. Especially useful as a weapon to retreat away from the fight while staying alive. The Critzcrieg Once a medic has earned two thirds of the achievements, they will be granted "The Critzcrieg." This new medigun uses its ubercharge not for invulnerability, but to give its recipient 100% chance to fire critical ordinance. Medics and the player they are charging need to be careful though, because as much fun as it is to fire critical rockets as fast as you can, the other team will see what you're up to and try to put a quick stop to your plan. The Ubersaw For the determined medic that has earned all 36 of the new achievements, they will find themselves the proud owner of "The Ubersaw," which will take damage done in melee attacks and convert it directly to ubercharge. Four hits with this new weapon will fully charge whatever medigun the medic has equpped. Source: Shacknews.com Page:

this woulda been nice in november when people were playing tf2 24/7
I see this weapons being used in competitive play, shure why not? The ONLY thing I HOPE and ASK Valve to do is to let servers have an option of whether they want all weapons unlocked or not. That is a problem CoD4 has and I dont want TF2 to have it aswell.
For LAN organizers its a hassel to get 100+ accounts and unlock everything in them. Seriuos LANs dont let you use your own Steam account.
I really hate the achievements that have to do with steam friends... they need to get rid of those.
The crit gun will probably still function with crits disabled, just like the sniper and spy still do. This weapon is going to be much more useful than the uber gun, since crits deal insane dmg at any distance. For example, an crit ubered scout can snipe people down with his SG and pistol; a crit ubered soldier will obliterate a room of people with 4 crits in a row, etc. etc. The critgun, if allowed in leagues, will become the norm.
By far the worst part about all of this, besides the fact that every weapon is unbalanced because each weapon is a serious improvement (no tradebacks at all), is that it looks like one will be able to choose whatever weapon they choose and use it. This means a medic with all achievements will have the uber bonesaw, critgun, and vamp gun all at once. This medic is so much more dangerous than a normal medic it's not even funny.
Leagues should allow them in, but with the provision that players may only choose one weapon at time. Otherwise these new weapons are stupid and offer nothing new for gameplay.
Imagine if the crit thing was in a competitive match. 10 seconds of crits... hmmm... so you charge a demoman, he lays 8 crit stickies.... ANYWHERE?!? and then wait for the enemy team to try to get in.
I think it will be interesting for public play, but valve don't exactly have a reputation for making things balanced. This would be a job for Blizzard.
It is going to be so fun to see all the uber heavies for the next three months trying to punch out enemies.
Ruin game play much?
You answered your own question.
Valve made TF2 first for FFA/pub/Fun, so it's obvious that their updates favour FFA/Fun gameplay first...
TF2 was made for teamwork/pub/fun
also #24 i think any game that has a lot of players is a good candidate for league play. We may never see tf2 in CGS, but damn I'd watch that. You're right it is hard to get serious about tf2 competitive play, but it's still fun playing with more organization.
