Well, the wait is finally over. As reported by Shacknews.com tonight at 12:26am, Valve has released info regarding the upcoming medic unlockable weapons, slated to be released the week of April 20th. Further info regarding the rest of this massive upload package, which will include the new Valve-designed escort map "Goldrush", will be released in the next couple days as well as an i'view between Shacknews & Valve's TF2 guy, Robin Walker. Full details of the new Medic weapons are below..

The Blutsaugher
For players that earn one third of the 36 new medic achievements, they will be given a new syringe gun. Called "The Blutsaugher," this new weapon no longer has the ability to score critical hits against an opponent. Instead it will draw health from enemies each time a syringe hits. Especially useful as a weapon to retreat away from the fight while staying alive.

The Critzcrieg
Once a medic has earned two thirds of the achievements, they will be granted "The Critzcrieg." This new medigun uses its ubercharge not for invulnerability, but to give its recipient 100% chance to fire critical ordinance. Medics and the player they are charging need to be careful though, because as much fun as it is to fire critical rockets as fast as you can, the other team will see what you're up to and try to put a quick stop to your plan.

The Ubersaw
For the determined medic that has earned all 36 of the new achievements, they will find themselves the proud owner of "The Ubersaw," which will take damage done in melee attacks and convert it directly to ubercharge. Four hits with this new weapon will fully charge whatever medigun the medic has equpped.

That Ubersaw is gonna be crazy if it's allowed in matches.. all of a sudden Medics will be a lot more aggresive if it's worth 1/4 uber-charge.

The only concern is the Ubersaw... Whats the down side for this gun? I hope it does considerable less damage so that It can only be used for killing blows. If seen Medics rap up a good amount of kills with the Bonesaw because in 2 hits you kill amost anything.

I see this weapons being used in competitive play, shure why not? The ONLY thing I HOPE and ASK Valve to do is to let servers have an option of whether they want all weapons unlocked or not. That is a problem CoD4 has and I dont want TF2 to have it aswell.

For LAN organizers its a hassel to get 100+ accounts and unlock everything in them. Seriuos LANs dont let you use your own Steam account.
If you can read this, I can slam on my brakes and sue you!

#9, your source? cause i could see it happening if it is slower, but if it isnt then they need to move it down to 1/5 charge

Some of these achievements are insanely hard. I expected a challenge, but damn these achievements are gonna take a long time to accomplish. A lot of people who accomplish them will probably cheat by getting friends to just stand still and die.

I really hate the achievements that have to do with steam friends... they need to get rid of those.

I don't even see these being a big deal for competitive play. The only one that might be a problem is the crit uber, but with no crits, its nullified. The super bonesaw, well, if it is very slow, then yeah I think that is a fair trade off. The vampire gun is just fine imo.

It's painfully apparent that these new weapons were not balanced for competitive play. The vamp gun is an obvious improvement for league play, since there are already no crits. The uber bonesaw fires 20% slower... big deal, that's hardly a disadvantage if you can aim. On the other hand, 1/4 an uber bar is ridiculously good.

The crit gun will probably still function with crits disabled, just like the sniper and spy still do. This weapon is going to be much more useful than the uber gun, since crits deal insane dmg at any distance. For example, an crit ubered scout can snipe people down with his SG and pistol; a crit ubered soldier will obliterate a room of people with 4 crits in a row, etc. etc. The critgun, if allowed in leagues, will become the norm.

By far the worst part about all of this, besides the fact that every weapon is unbalanced because each weapon is a serious improvement (no tradebacks at all), is that it looks like one will be able to choose whatever weapon they choose and use it. This means a medic with all achievements will have the uber bonesaw, critgun, and vamp gun all at once. This medic is so much more dangerous than a normal medic it's not even funny.

Leagues should allow them in, but with the provision that players may only choose one weapon at time. Otherwise these new weapons are stupid and offer nothing new for gameplay.

Allowing unlockables in competitive play will either have to be done automatically, or not at all. Allowing individuals or teams to have access to more weapons than others, in competitive play throws off the balance of game design. to get the bonesaw you need every achievement. The 10million healing alone, is roughly 175-200hrs playtime. Newer teams, or teams with new medics, etc. will be at quite the disadvantage if this is allowed in leagues without moderation.

All sounds pretty pants. I like the idea of alternative weapons, but they would have to be balanced perfectly and that's never going to happen. There will be a standard weapons used for certain maps, e.g, the ubercharge would be used for dustbowl / gravelpit while the other would be used for other maps.

Imagine if the crit thing was in a competitive match. 10 seconds of crits... hmmm... so you charge a demoman, he lays 8 crit stickies.... ANYWHERE?!? and then wait for the enemy team to try to get in.

I think it will be interesting for public play, but valve don't exactly have a reputation for making things balanced. This would be a job for Blizzard.

It is going to be so fun to see all the uber heavies for the next three months trying to punch out enemies.

Ruin game play much?

#20, then why are you on this site if you're not interested in competitiveness. If valve wern't interested in competitive play they wouldn't have made the game completely balanced and created a tournament mode etc.

Valve made TF2 first for FFA/pub/Fun, so it's obvious that their updates favour FFA/Fun gameplay first...

Lets be honest this game blows as a competitive game anyway, before release non of the leagues were going to use it and once they saw so meny ppl playing the game they decided to add it to the list on CEVO CAL GGL ect. (all about the $ and traffic, not the game) These unlockables are going to be great for the game. mabie even force the Crits back into competitions or just have this game dropped from the leagues, as it should have never been in the leagues in the first place! If the leagues keep adding every game that lots of ppl play they will find them selfs in the same possition as the CPL. Bent over and taking it from the game companies!
www.MPlayerServers.com Quality First GSP

I think it would be a good idea to reserve judgement about game play balance with the ubersaw/critzcrieg until the other 24 weapons are implemented ;)

also #24 i think any game that has a lot of players is a good candidate for league play. We may never see tf2 in CGS, but damn I'd watch that. You're right it is hard to get serious about tf2 competitive play, but it's still fun playing with more organization.
