Team Fortress 2: GotFrag Invitational Preds - Upper Final

By: Everett Wells - Published January 22, 2009 at 3:47 PM EST - Writer Archive
Pandemic & iDemise fight it out in the Winner's Bracket Final while Xensity & Sway fight just to stay alive.

(GotFrag) - We've got a busy night of TF2 action for you tonight, with the GotFrag Invitational TF2 Winner's Bracket Final (now that's a title) going down tonight between the two top dogs, Pandemic & iDemise. I think the importance of such a match kinda speaks for itself, and is very likely a preview of next week's Grand Finals. But these two titants aren't alone on the docket tonight - still fighting for the lives, Xensity & Sway Gaming - both victorious in their respective battles with AI and Ringers - will meet in the Loser's Bracket in the fight to stay alive and face whomever gets deposed from above.

GotFrag Invitational - Winner's Bracket Final

Pandemic v iDemise

compLexity23-5
Loaded13-4

nicky: This is what everyone, by everyone I mean me, has been waiting for, and should be a nice little preview of the final. ID made good practice of Ringers beating them 5-2, while Pandemic did what they normally did and steamrolled AI 5-1. These are the top 2 teams in North America, though maybe we will even see a new champ crowned. But then again, even if we consider everyone that's ever topped the standings over Pandemic - even just once - we all know Pandemic is still number one, cuz that's never happened. Everyone on ID is going to have to frag their brains out in order to end up on top. That or play really slow while not getting pushed too far back by Pandy. Just to even the playing field a bit, I'm going to give ID a huge confidence boost and say they are going to win, 5-4 though haha!

Pandemic [ 4 : 5 ] iDemise

rk: I'd love to hype up this match - in fact, I have in two different news posts already tonight (see above) - but the simple truth is, Pandemic's soldiers own this map. Now, I will admit that is at odds with carnage's own domination on cp_badlands - which has happened from time to time - but I think sycknesS & oPlaiD can contain iDemise's scout pair without too much difficulty, and Pandemic's strength in the other classes will be more than enough to overwhelm iDem. Unless, of course, REM a) plays and b) has the game of his life, but who can really say? Sorry, gotta go with my guts on this - and by that, I mean Reptile's pwnage.

Pandemic [ 5 : 3 ] iDemise

GotFrag Invitational - Losers's Bracket Round 3

Xensity v Sway Gaming
Scoreboard1H2HOTF
Evil Geniuses2--2
Xensity----
Delayed till Monday

nicky: The battle of the inconsistency ends tonight. So, Sway lost to AI...badly! and Xensity beat AI, barely. This should be a great match to keep an eye on, that is if both teams perform their best. Yaug VS zeroskillz will also not disappoint. Expect both players to make huge plays for their teams while battleing back and forth for a while. Who is going to come out on top? I have no Idea. It's a toss up. But, since Sway is on a roll with a [5:2] and [5:3] victory and Xensity barely got passed the last two rounds in lower bracket, I'm calling Sway to take the cake. Especially since I have had multiple people in ESEA tell me I'm as good as enigma with scout after coming back and playing for only like a week, sorry e!

Sway [ 2 : 1 ] Xensity

rk: I'm starting to wonder what would be more helpful to teams, especially when they play Sway - do I pred FOR them and AGAINST Sway, or for Sway in an effort to jinx? I like Xensity, and had complete faith in them last round (so much so that I got the perfect pred - ooooh yeah), but we all know that by predding AGAINST Sway I almost guarantee their victory.

...of course, that's if you really believe in luck and karma and all this predding stuff, which I don't - personally, I just think Sway's been the better team lately and have, finally, shown a little consistency. But I also can't pick against Xensity right now - scrapping out that 5-4 win was a gutsy thing against a very tough and much beloved AI, and I think that'll give Xen a little boost coming into tonight. That, and I can't help but feel that zeroskillz is just gonna dominate tonight - which, on cp_gravelpit, can be a game-changing thing for a soldier to do. JUST DON'T GET SNIPED!

Sway [ 1 : 2 ] Xensity

SourceTV Relays will be available for both matches tonight, generously provided by both Apoplexy Servers & Aim2Game, and will be listed in the match scoreboards when the information becomes available.
