The Huntsman longbow is the first new weapon to be revealed. Along with the new format, two new Arena maps have been announced, one of them featuring the first ever weather effect in a TF map: Sawmill - Set in a stormy mountain sawmill, this arena map has its cap point in a large structure atop a hill in the center of the map; beneath which lies a hidden underground spytech base; and above which, pouring down on everything we just mentioned, is rain—the first weather effect to appear in a TF map. If that previous sentence wasn’t long enough for you, replace the period with a comma and add this next part: players must ALSO watch out for the two deadly saw blades near the cap, which were left on when the previous occupants abandoned it for a less deadly, hilly, rain-swamped sawmill not built on a spybase. Nucleus - A diabolical doomsday device is the foundation of this circular arena map, which features long sightlines and a bottomless radioactive pit underneath most of the game area. The cap, located in the center of the arena, is only accessible by catwalks suspended over a chasm, which open after the timer has run down. Details can be found here. DAY 1: The first new weapon for the upcoming Sniper Update has been announced. For all those who guessed "bow & arrow", you win the office pool - please pick up your prizes in the lobby. Here's the scoop: The Huntsman You shoot them and they will stick to the wall and they will die. Any experienced sniper will tell you how irritating it is when your targets keep moving around. The question is how to stop these cheaters from wind-sprinting around like they own the place. And the answer is to pin them to a wall. How? With arrows! "Now, hold on," you might be thinking. "I'm strong, but no one could throw an arrow that hard." Introducing the Huntsman longbow, which solves that age-old throwing problem. "Now, hold on," you keep saying. "Aren't bows and arrows primitive and harmless?" Why don't you ask the dinosaurs? Except you can't, because the cavemen bow and arrowed them to death. One headshot from the Huntsman can mean an instant crit, in addition to a bolt-riddled corpse hanging from a wall that's gruesome and funny. And even if you don't kill them, they'll carry around a certain arrow-shaped something as a living testament to your awesome archery skills and their frankly unawesome dodging skills. Comes with 18 arrows and a one-second charge for full power shots. Source: TeamFortress.com |

[16:35] <justin_> Then we will fight in the shade...
World of TF2 anyone?
LOL Valve writers are hilarious
How about a caveman Valve?
lol
Also Valve said it only pins ragdolls, so no crowd control.
Anyway, before you kids spaz out as usual, just stop and realize that
1.) it will be much harder to get hits with a slower projectile weapon (especially at long range, which is obviously crucial to a Sniper),
2.) body-hits will most likely do less damage per arrow than a sniper rifle round (thus the point of the whole "pin them to the wall" gameplay mechanism), and
3.) the bow will probably have a slower rate of fire than the default rifle.
All in all, I forsee an unlockable that will be fun to pub with, but ultimately inferior to the standard sniper rifle in competitive play, and thus will threaten no one's status quo, pubbers and competitive players alike.
So easy a caveman can do it!
im just wondering what the damage will be like, 1 second charge time is pretty ridiculous if it does the same damage as the rifle
expect my arrow to go to the same speed as my balls when i nail you to the wall.
haha i had to say it :)
#22 is Canadian
#19 is Japanese
regular pl maps fail in competitive play, these will as well.
There will be way too much going on for this to work in a 6v6 setting. Attacking the other cart while trying to defend yours on a big map with only 6 v 6? Not gonna work... another map for the pubbers.
Valve... how about some GOOD ctf maps for a change (ones that are designed for competitive play)?!?! No, we dont want ctf_granary, or ctf_badlands.... how about some original ctf maps or some qwtf/tfc remakes?
As a TF vet (playing since 1996) I can honestly say i enjoy ctf maps, but in tf2 they are so bad. If there was a good map the leagues may embrace it. Think about it.
Literally.
Whoa brah.
The rest of it will probably be bunk for competition, but it's better than nothing.
