Team Fortress 2: ESEA-i Playoff Interviews

ehFk: What are your opinions on ESEA Season 3? How did it play out for coL? Were you impressed or disappointed?

coL.oPlaiD: Sitting atop the league we can't be too disappointed with our performance. Yes, it would have been nice to win every single match, but we'll take two losses early on when we were still trying to build our team identity with this new lineup. Since then, we've felt very comfortable together so overall it's been good.

ehFk: You and Loaded have quite the history, how do you think you match up with them on badlands? Care to make any predictions?

coL.oPlaiD: Last season, Loaded was definitely the biggest obstacle for us winning any titles. This season, though, they're on the decline after some lengthy inactivity. We've handled them easily in recent matches, although they were lacking their starting Scout, enigma, so it seems like they have some work to do to get back into playoff form. Still, the only three matches we've lost with this lineup have been on cp_badlands (ironic because we were undefeated on that map on NA servers before the change), so we have some work to do, too. We'll be as ready as the community lets us, considering right now it's tough to find practice against challenging competition.

ehFk: What do you think about the current state of competitive TF2?

coL.oPlaiD: The premium controversy and a few poor selections of teams certainly put a damper on the this season's TF2 competition as it deflated any momentum the invite division had and has led to increased inactivity among most of the top teams in the league. That's only the upper tier of talent, though; the amount of lower level competition continues to grow and many of the top amateur teams are reaching the level where they can challenge some of the tougher opponents. Whether some of the teams who lost their steam this season - Loaded, Pure, 20ID, Push - come back with renewed vigor remains to be seen, but as long as Valve continues to support TF2 there will always be new talent continuing to develop. Right now, that's probably the biggest concern competitively. Game balance may be a hot topic in some places, but honestly it's just about right. A mix of styles in both individual and team tactics can be successful and that's the hallmark of a good and balanced game. I'd still like to see another good map or two, although cp_follower is pretty decent and cp_yukon has potential.

ehFk: Thanks man. Any shout outs?

coL.oPlaiD: I'd like to thank ESEA for putting together a great online league and working through all the bumps along the road. I also should wish our CS team luck in the ESEA playoffs, although they may not need it after they finished the season with a 14-2 record and a top seed like us! I'd also like to thank my teammates, it's been great playing with them, and I hope we'll soon have the chance to sport the Complexity jerseys with our g8 clothing and represent Creative, Puretrak, and our other partners at a live event sometime soon!
