Team Fortress 2: TWL-I S4 - Week 3 Predictions

By: Daniel - Published July 31, 2009 at 3:23 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Knights of Goku vs LIGHTNINGBOLT highlight TWL-I S4's Week 3 matchups.

Daniel from KoG predicts week 3 of TWL-Invite on cp_well.

(GotFrag) - Many teams are glad to have moved on from week 2 and cp_follower, due to its tendency towards stalemates and frequent backcaps. Unfortunately for them, week 3’s map is cp_well, a stock map that has suffered from relative unpopularity in the competitive community for the same reasons. Many teams use unconventional tactics, including running snipers and heavies fulltime, which should help to make the matches somewhat interesting to watch – provided they don’t stalemate at the sliding doors for half an hour.

Knights of Goku vs. Lightning Bolt
No prediction for this one, but I’m sad I won’t get to play naughty notor, since he’s apparently taking a break from TF2 or something. It should be a pretty close game, in any case.

pointandclick vs. Dejavu
My match to watch for week 3. Both teams feature impressive sniping as well as skilled pocket soldiers and demomen. I think this match will come down to who has the smarter scouts – and waar has the experience to make those timely backcaps that so often win this map. Provided Chupa and Sequel are on their game and give their scouts the opportunities they need to slip by, I see pac coming away with a win here. Some Oshnosh sniping on mid could get DJV a round or two, though. Expect this one to be the full 40 minutes.
4-2 pointandclick

Businessmen vs. Hostile Faction
HF looked a little jumbled in our match on Follower – it wasn’t as much of a roll as the score suggests, as we were pushed back to our last at least a half dozen times, but the teamwork didn’t seem to be there on their part. I think returning to a more familiar map will suit their playstyle better, and I’m sure they’ll be looking to bounce right back with a win. I think as long as HF has a better game in terms of communication and teamwork, they should have this over what is basically a pickup team in the Businessmen. It’ll probably be another 40-minute match, though.
5-4 Hostile Faction

Strickland Propane vs. Team Caboose
Two really evenly matched teams here with strong combo classes will meet on a spam-heavy map – expect this one to be a grinder. I mean like, a 1-0, overtime-requiring, oh-my-god-make-it-end grinder. I’m basically flipping a coin here, and a hunch tells me that Caboose will go 2-1 this week. Watch for some sneaky backcaps from Caboose’s scouts, and overall solid play from Droog and Clockwork. And for wo0t to gay the hell out of somebody with a blind det.
1-0 Team Caboose

Stacker’s Union vs. Expertise
Apparently a demo has been recently released that implies Expertise’s new scout, w1rex, is a hacker – so it’ll be interesting to see what comes of that, at least. The video is fairly damning in my opinion, but I’ll wait for an official league ban to pass judgment. In any case, with or without w1rex, Expertise is likely not going to take a round here off the Stackers – at this point, I’m not entirely sure how suited they are to be in TWL-I.
6-0 Stacker’s Union

Good luck everybody, and may your matches end before the timelimit hits.
