Team Fortress 2: ESEA-Open S4 Playoffs - Upper2/Lower 1

By: Everett Wells - Published October 25, 2009 at 8:54 PM EST - Writer Archive
The ESEA-Open Playoffs continue with the Lower 1 and Upper 2 rounds.
(GotFrag) - Wow, what a way to kick things off, eh?

Round 1 proved to be a little more flat than we here at GotFrag were hoping for - the marquee matchup of United States the terribles vs. United States Essentrix Gaming turned into a rout in the second half, with the terribles taking the match 5-1, while there were similar blowout scores in victories for United States Tool Academy Grads and United States Harmonic (which I totally called wrong).

The big upset-win went to United States Slaughterhouse Gaming over United States eXpertise, who pulled out a close win 5-4 (which, again, I called very, very wrong). All this shakes out to the following matchups in the Upper and Lower Brackets:

UPDATE: sG has done it again, taking down .hrmnc easily 5-2. They'll move on to the Upper Bracket Finals against [t00l], who also took down the terribles 5-2 tonight.

Since one of the matches caught me early and is in fact currently in progress, we'll have a slightly truncated predictions section. Remember, scores and brackets can always be found on the left hand link.

ESEA-Open Season 4 Playoffs - Upper 2
United States Tool Academy Grads vs. United States the terribles
rk: the terribles looked darn impressive with that opening beatdown of enx, but [t00l] is a whole different monster. Shutting down the multiple weapons [t00l] possess - from PYYOUR to pokey to wicked and so on - is a tough feat, and one that I think is a little beyond the terribles - especially on such a frag-heavy map like cp_granary.

[t00l] [ 5 : 3 ] terribles

United States Harmonic vs. United States Slaughterhouse Gaming
rk: Clearly I have a very bad feel for these two teams, as both proved me wrong in the Round 1 preds. As impressive an upset as sG's win over ex. was, I really thought .hrmnc's outright domination of a decent eXult team was the more shining feat, and after watching the demo it's hard not to be impressed with .hrmnc's apparent chemistry. I'm not going to count sG out, but .hrmnc looks too good right now to pick against.

.hrmnc [ 5 : 2 ] sG

ESEA-Open Season 4 Playoffs - Lower 1
Canada Royal vs. United States Essentrix Gaming
rk: I was pretty disappointed in enx's first round effort, but they've got a great chance to bounce back tonight against a very weak royal. Actually, "weak" is probably too nice a term... a respectable inside source has told me in confidence that royal is just straight up bad and have no chance of hanging in for long these playoffs.

royal` [ 1 : 5 ] enx
