Hi I've been playing CS for about 4 years and I'm looking to try out DotA for fun since a lot of people seem to play it.
As far I as know dota is a custom map that is mostly different from the normal mode of games in warcraft, controlling heroes to capture the other base (ancient) but I don't know much beyond that. It does seem quite appealing since it's team based (like cs) with 5v5 (like cs) except CT and T become scourge and sentinel (I think ?).
Is it necessary to learn the normal war3 mode first? or can I just start right with DotA? I heard there are different map versions, how do I know which one to get (the latest one?) ? Can anyone point me to any beginners resources/guides about playing DotA? I probably need something like a manual that tells me how to play the game rather than how to get good at it (although that would be good too). the only strategy games I've played are age of empires and warcraft looks totally different.
it isn't neccessary that you have to play war3 model before you play DOTA,if you do so it would be better .DOta is more emphasize on team work ,the hero's equipment compare with war3 model, you can look up some website to find more details this website maybe have some useful imfo that you want http://baike.baidu.com/view/20844.htm good luck P.S. I just play war3 model for 2years and i rarely play dota with my buddies(most of time i play with crazy computer ：）） .i always watch them play against others .the hero's skill is quite fabulous 。hope you enjou it
